^ thats what gets me about ALL mini's, the interior is too "cutesy" and feminine, was the goal to see how many circles and curves one can fit into the interior?
x1 on the other hand, looking good IMO...

You think X-car and you automatically think of something SUV sized so that's the image you have in your head before actually being able to check it out live.

Not good posting things like that here. Oh, and the Mini, get used to it, they are going to sell them by the bucketload. Just for interest, that rail down the middle is optional, you can have the Countryman without it and three normal seats in the back. Last edited by mario486; 08-25-2010 at 06:00 PM.. |

Mario,
No three seat option in the US on the Countryman only two in the back with rail due to new US laws (at least thats what Mini says). I had an X3 and after the lease ran out got a Clubman S but would have got a Countryman or X1 if they had been available. I may trade the Clubman S next summer but it depends on the EPA gas milage of the X1 The Countryman S is supposed to get 34 MPG hwy and 26 city so unless the X1 comes with a 4 cyl turbo or diesel it probably won't get a lot better than my X3 got which was about 17.5 city and 21-22 hwy. Anyone know if it will come with a 6 speed auto in US or does it get the 8 speed auto, that would make a big difference. Last edited by Lucky13; 08-25-2010 at 07:18 PM.. Reason: spelling |

+1000 I wonder how many more cars they would have sold if they stuck with something a little more serious. Really Mini- a speedo the size of personal pizza smack in the middle of the dash? I like to think I have an open mind but that just ain't right- horrid, not worth me bothering. They're really too small for my needs- but that's not like me to eliminate a car before even driving it...

Mini Interior
Mini should offer a "classic" edition option with a traditional interior.
This would get rid of all the rubbery round dials and knobs and replace them with classic dial and knobs, including tasteful chrome surrounds and of course, wood. Exterior colors could be limited to british racing green and a couple of other classic colors. This is such an obviously good marketing idea I can't believe it hasn't been done. Maybe I am just kidding myself?? Cheers! |

The new Mini's interior is very retro which anyone older than 40 will instantly recognise. And before I forget its very well made as well. On to the X1, its interior is very modern but remarkably clutter free. |

^ "clutter free" just as it should be. IMO an interior should be designed well enough to "fade away" and allow the driver to focus on the drive...
Every "new" mini released thus far is all up in your face with "look at me, look at me" crazy styling. Which is not typical of typical BMW's... Maybe I love my e46 interior too much, black on black with black cube trim (ZHP package), anthracite headliner (ZHP package) and black alcantara accents (steering wheel, shift and parking break boots, ZHP package). It "fades away" and allows me to focus on driving, all of the controls, however, are appropriately placed so I don't have to hunt for them and I'm never blinded by chrome or shiny accents in the interior... JMO

I have and was considering getting one (Mini Cooper) until I developed a need for a more snow going vehicle. They're a blast to drive, with go cart handling and when you're behind the wheel, all the "cutsie" stuff becomes inconsequential.
Don't really have any strong opinions on the Countryman vs the X1, but each has their fan base and both will do well in their market segment.
