G87 M2 vs CTV5 blackwing?
So just as a buddy of mine predicted, the want for a manual is starting to creep back in...so I find myself looking for a manual again that is a good all rounder that also brings a lot of smiles per mile and makes me wanna look back...
The three that come to mind so far are the G87 M2 or CTV5 blackwing I have had seat time time in both here are my thoughts G87, I like the muscular looks, bigger than F87 but still has that tossable small car feel, amazing ride quality, sounds pretty good and that S58 has a real motorsport feel to it but it does have turbo lag which I hate, manual is ok, clutch is nice and light CTV5, sounds amazing, great manual but heavy clutch, great ride quality, very practical, a little big, looks decent but wont look back at it as much as the G87, the V8 is decent but kinda just a truck motor doesnt have that motorsport feel to it, but no turbo lag leaning towards the G87 anything I have missed in these thoughts? or any other car that comes to mind that beats these two? I want something 2023 and up with warranty

What year is a G87? I hate these codes everyone uses. I need a spreadsheet to keep up.
Isn’t the M2 a coupe and the Cadillac a sedan? They are two very different cars. Do you anticipate rear seat adults? What’s choice number 3? |

Not a lot of options out there. In your shoes I'd try the CT4V Blackwing as well. It's probably quite similar to the CT5, but different enough to warrant a try - smaller, lighter, turbo V6 over super V8.
If a 2 door 2+2 like the M2 is an option, I would have a look at the top trim Mustang and Camaro as well, perhaps even the ZL1 (yes, same engine as the CT5, but wraped in a more sporty package). The Camaro is only used, the Mustang can be had new for the new generation or used for the previous generation (and still be 2023 and newer). |

I think they're two very different cars, so just depends what your goals are really. I haven't driven either, but they both seem like really solid choices.
Also second a Mustang. Tuners just unlocked the 24+ ECUs so they're tunable now if you plan on modding. |

Is the R8 your current car? Is this a replacement or an addition? If an additional, I'd maybe lean to the sedan if you need the back seat, but otherwise M2 all the way. I also would not replace an R8 with an M2 unless it's really just something you cant deal with anymore.

I have really enjoyed the R8, such an amazing car, but alas hedonic adaptation has reared its ugly head and I find myself wanting a manual car again for some, the engagement of the manual is huge, I seem to be that type

Yes I agree. My 991.1S is manual and I personally love manual and NA engines. That said, I've owned a G80 6mt, G80xdrive, and now a G80 CS and the xdrive and CS are without question better, more cohesive and put together overall. I cannot stand the manual in the BMWs. Whether it's the rubbery and vague shifter/gearbox, the awful engagement of the clutch, the pedal placement, or the way it feels rev match downshifting...it's just not a great experience. Not enough to say I'm going to pass us, arguably, the most well rounded package in the xdrive and even more so the CS. If I were you, I'd get myself a lot of seat time with an M2 manual because I dont believe just having a manual is enough. The manual needs to be good, and there is where Caddy is the only manufacturer to get anywhere near Porsche level good for that type of transmission. |

I don't see the two as equivalent at all. One is a super sedan, the other is the entry level M car.
Personally I'd get a C7Z06. I know you said you want newer and warranty, but they don't really make good cars with manuals anymore. How about a 911? |

Agreed, two totally different cars. One is a range topping future classic. The other is the entry level car made in Mexico.
If this was 5-10 years ago the BMW would make more sense, but these days W had just cost cut everything to the point that they're inferior products. |

You either want/need a small 2-door, in which case CTV5 is way too big. Or you want/need a 4-door sleeper sedan, in which case M2 is uselessly small. Figure out what form-factor vehicle you want to add to your garage (a convertible?), and the rest will follow! I would say the Blackwing is actually the more special car, but it is far too big for me. I would much prefer the smaller and more tossable M2.

Blackwing.
It's already big, get the better car. Want something small? Get an older car that's actually small.

I mean, if the reason you want to switch is for the manual? Which it seems to be. It’s the Bw all day. The BMW’s have one of the worst manuals ever made. The new one feels the same as my E-36. Sloppy/loose/long ass no feel shifting. They are not on the same planet in that aspect. Also, the Beemer is a dime a dozen. Definitely a bit more exclusivity in the Wing. Sound is another issue for most. BMW—-chainsaw on steroids. BW- crazy V8 roar. I have loved all my M cars. Still enjoy my F-82. But it sounds like dog shit:-) E-46 was my favorite and that sounded like dog shit also. Just go E-92 with a supercharger and be done with it.

CT 5 V Blackwing hands down manual supercharged V8 not to mention the car is capable on the street or the track. At some point your going to want more power in the M2 you’ll never have that problem with the Blackwing.

I like the idea of the Slightly smaller CT4-V Blackwing and a reflash with JB4. But the V8 with the grunt sounds is great!!

Get the ct4 v blackwing and also the M2 so you have the best of both worlds. If I could only pick one, it would be the GMC but I'm biased because I have some GMC vehicles but I did used to have one BMW in the past. I guess I would try to test drive both of them to see which one you personally like the best.

Blackwing all day. The M2 I had was simply not a great car, especially in manual trim. The transmission sucks due to poor shift feel. Deleting the CDV + a clutch spacer, even doing a chassis mounted race shifter did not alleviate how notchy and bad it felt.
I found the car to not be particularly communicative at the limit, and twitchy.
