Depends on if they are "baking" it.

Even if the body shop is baking it, I would play it safe and wait a few weeks.

Many base coats are waterborne now, but clear coats are still solvent based. Even when a fresh paint job gets baked in a paint booth, it'll still off-gas for several weeks. If you cover fresh paint with PPF, you run the risk of getting air bubbles trapped between the finish and the PPF. My friend is learning this the hard way with his G80.

Car is in repair now. Should be ready on July 10th.
I have an appointment to re-PPF on August 18th.
That should be enough time.

I would 100% pocket that money and never repair it. Close to $4K to repair that seems excessive. No wonder we all pay through the nose for our car insurance.

Can’t do that. No matter how small the damage, it bothers me to look at it.
One reply above was from an ex insurance adjuster and he didn’t see any red flags when I posted the estimate.

The body work is all labor and paint and a couple of parts. The price is about right.

I would try and claim extra money as the car will have less of a resale value after this. (If you went through insurance)

I'm paying the body shop myself. Insurance will reimburse me. I will be claiming diminished value but that has to be done after everything is paid.
There will be no car fax. Again, the damage is minimal and cosmetic only but expensive.

If you file a diminished value claim with the insurance company they still might report the damage to Carfax.

Doesn’t the repair shop report it?

They are supposed to report it, however we don't live in a perfect world.

^^ So... insurance huh? I myself have kept a close eye on the cost of insurance being in the god forsaken business.

Most people just don't understand what internal costs really are for each carrier and why. Fast forwarding as to why we all pay "out the nose". Simply put - Inflation. Cost of doing business increases over time.

Think about what goods and services used to cost in the 80's, 90's, etc. We all felt the affects of Covid-19 ...obviously. I simply use this as a rather large turning point in costs because we all felt it.

Costs of everything we purchase today has increased substantially since Covid-19. Now related to why insurance keeps going up for all of us:

1) People's attitudes and self entitlement has become insanely worse.
Think of road rage for example. People lose their minds and have zero courtesy for others. It's all about "ME" type attitude.

2) Litigations costs have sky rocketed thanks to our broken legal/insurance system. Example: 10mph bump in the rear bumper, minor scratch... people dont call their insurance co first they call "Dewey, Cheatum and Howe" law firm. Insurance companies won't fight in court nor can they prove "Mental Anguish", Pain and Suffering, Soft tissue damage. These are the top 3 statements in law suits that insurance carriers experience so they simply pay 50k suit and close the claim. Why? Attorneys know insurance companies can't prove it nor will they go to court because they'll lose. Guess what? All of these BS law suits go towards the insurance companies expenses which therefore increases the rates for all of us.

3) Increased costs to repair vehicles/truck these days compared to 20, 30 years ago. The scratch on your bumper cost 4k right? Why cars aren't made like they used to be so they have to replace the entire bumper plus the safety features within hence high repair bills.

4) People have forgotten how to drive!! New technology has contributed. Face buried in their cells phones constantly while driving and not paying attention!! Pisses me off! Everyone does it or most everyone which is stupidity. New infotainment centers in newer vehicles distract us all. Driver inattention once again.

Before I go on a ballistic rant and pop a blood vessel the real culprit is the person you see in the mirror every day.

We all know it's true but some just can't take accountability for their actions and be held accountable.

.... Happy driving.
