Wrinkled IOMG paint due to heatgun misue

I was trying to remove some scuff on the PPF on the lower rocker panel piece. Turned out the scuff was too deep to self heal and I totally messed up overheating the area. Now when I peeled of the PPF, the underlying body paint has deep wrinkles in it. Not sure it's the clear coat or all layers.

It's about 2*2" area. I am gonna try sanding compounding and polishing but the grooves feel deeper than typical orange peel I doubt they can be fixed this way

This is a plastic piece p/n (51-77-8-084-240). If I take this part off to have a shop repaint it, how much does this usually cost?

If you reapply new ppf would it hide the defect you think.

Could be $150-200+ in your area. Most shops have minimums.

I'd be curious to know if it can be smoothed out.

* Maybe similarly, with heat
* Maybe sanded, if it doesn't go all the way through

There's a part of me that says go for it, it's already messed up, if the methods fail it's in the same state. There's another part that says live and learn, if it's reasonably out of site only you will ever see it, and forget about it.

My $0.02 cents: learn to ignore it, and treat this mistake as a life lesson. It looks like it would only be noticeable if you are looking for it, and the car is clean. Nice color, btw!

With some wet sanding and re-application of PPF I think you could make that almost undetectable. That being said I would take it to a detailer experienced in wet sanding. That panel is plastic so you can't measure paint depth to see how much you're removing.

Garage List
I'd be tempted to heat it and see what happens. Then try sanding it down. Then once neither of those work, get it repainted.
