Frozen Paint Education
Frozen black paint looks amazing and on the lines on the XM the shades and colors are endless . Love it. It’s a super strong paint and certainly not as a scary as I thought when I first got the bmw home I was scared nervous everything that was that being said about frozen paint .
I have learned it’s a incredible tough paint … I cannot count how much money I spent on products I will never use . It’s much simpler then I ever thought . The paint is very strong and clear coat very smootg 1. Matt soaps and such are wise tales hang on to your pocket book it’s crazy the pressure Matt products I was sucked in . I use Jimbo’s super soaker it’s perfect to foam cannon and . I do not pre rinse . 2. I stopped contact washing don’t have to the paint lets the good foam clean the car and avoid cleaning swirls that can happen .contact wash only if need it’s very very rare . Something about the frozen a good foam really works well 3. Water marks … vinegar and water 40 % of vinegar takes all water marks and no smears . 4. Ceramic spray hard as shell love the product doesn’t change the finish at all . 5. BMW leather protector on a sponge for the interior . 6 . Not doing 5 year ceramic do not want a stronger chemical on my car like the water based hard as shell spray . 7. Adam’s glass cleaner works the best for me . With there green glass to remove streaks . Won’t do the PPf anymore then my front because I appreciate the frozen paint my PPF very high end is not the same as the paint and PPf … if I get chips and scratches etc fine I ll take my PPF money towards a new paint job until then I am ok and enjoying the many colors of frozen paint on the XM . My system is pretty easy and simple now thankfully Last edited by jwmFcreek; 01-27-2025 at 07:52 PM.. |

Sure, sure.
I just satin PPFed Black Sapphire Metallic and don't have to worry about any of it. Looks the same as Frozen Black. |

Smart move. I did this to my x5mc f95 black sapphire too because I really like the stealth look on black. To me that’s the only way I can justify paying for a full body ppf because of the dual purpose of paint protection and paint finish change. Although I did just get my frozen white g80 ppf on the full front end and carbon roof, I just feel like the $ spent vs level of satisfaction ratio is no where compared to the ppf on f95 due to lack of visual pleasure improvement |

I love the feedback on frozen paint … as a person who has PPf on the front hood and front end I feel better having the PPF on the hood absolutely… I was new 5 months ago to all of this because i fell in love with the frozen paint look to me was great still is the angles on the xm car cause the many shades and color changes love it . The fear I had for messing this finish up was more then anything I ever purchased … its nuts the more I read and studied buy this special product do this coating do this PPF spend more money cover up what you like … I actually stood in stores shopping all PPf and wraps in general . Mean while buying more Matt black product then a pro detailer crazy . BMW didnt lay out a clear path to take care of just soap and water and I wasn’t educated on the paint to ask the right questions either.
I hand wash only and that is done mainly by contactless foam wash …dirt doesn’t stick to this paint well at all . I chose not to PPF the rest and enjoy the paint as I purchased the car and use a ceramic spray that is water based that doesn’t change the finish was a very slow process to find . I love the frozen black look the way it is … I bought so much product out of fear I feel now that I can maintain the look I ll take my chances when a scratch happens hopefully I can live with it and if like any dent in a car happens I ll cross that bridge when I have to and if by chance I need to take my PPF money and apply it to new paint then that’s the price I pay for having this nice car and the look I wanted . This frozen paint is the hardest and strongest paint I ever had on a car and now that I know how to take care and maintain it easily and properly I enjoy the car so much more . Best to all Last edited by jwmFcreek; 01-28-2025 at 03:11 AM.. |

I agree jwmFcreek that maintaining this paint isn't any more difficult than normal paint. In a way, it's less work since you can't use any wax/sealants. Wash, dry, then (optionally) use a matte-specific detailer; that's it.
That said, I would be very uncomfortable using a foam cannon/pressure washer only. I am not sure that would remove all the dirt particles. I use a wash mitt (bought a nice one ...Gyeon Smoothie) very lightly and that seems to work fine. Charles

I'm seriously looking at a well equipped CPO 2023 M850i. The one thing holding me back it is frozen Tanzanite Blue. The paint is in good shape and if I'm reading these posts correctly the consensus is that using a foam cannon with matte compatible products such as Jimbo's or Dr. Beasley's is all I need on a regular basis. I live in SC and rarely does my car get mud or grime. It'll be an around towner and short tripper and it'll always be garaged.
So y'all are helping me get over my fear of maintaining frozen paint for the most part.

I am just at year with the frozen black XM label …the look it gives out is so unique would not have another color . Like I said the panic I had was way over blown …the smoothness of the frozen black really lets me foam cannon 99 % of the washes my car has dirt just slides off to me . I did PPF the front and hood glad I did . I still use Jimbo’s tested the PH levels everyone panics about his PH was less then 1 % over my city water and only sits on my car for 5 minutes or less inside during the wash anyway . Water spots would freak me out I use vinegar and water sprayer on a good Micro towel and always wipes with no worries . Every 5 washes I use his hard as shell to protect and love it . I tried them all ….the hard as shell I went slow inside the doors first for a month then a panel etc…I wish you good luck I sold all my Matt black products on e bay |

XPEL on Frozen Grey X6
Hi, everyone,
I am new to ppf. I am about to have an X6 frozen grey undergo ppf (XPEL). Almost virtually every shop has stated that the XPEL stealth is the way to go for this one bc of the X6's matte paint. However, one shop, which provided a very fair price, has insisted that XPEL ultimate fusion should be used as it is invisible and 'is the highest level of protection with more hydrophobic properties and includes ceramic coating." More importantly, the shop also claims that the XPEL ultimate fusion 'will maintain the same exact matte finish' on my frozen grey.' The shop also calls it product 'fully body matte ppf expel ultimate fusion premium quality' on the invoice estimate. When I talk to all other shops whose quotes I have acquired, they are emphatic to say that only XPEL stealth should be used on an original frozen gray (matte), and that using ultimate fusion will certainly turn the original frozen grey color glossy. The other shop that has offered a good price on ultimate fusion denies this still, and says ultimate fusion will retain the factory matte finish as it is invisible. Advice? Thoughts? Any help? Does anyone have any experience putting ultimate fusion on an original matte paint? Thanks, in advance, Will |

If they can't figure out that a gloss film will result in a gloss finish, they shouldn't be anywhere near someone's car with a razor blade. |

Absolutely love your car. Did you debadge and do you have black emblems or standard bmw ones? Just got my first matte black car and not sure if I should completely black it out or not.
