I went to the FLAT OUT classic at heartland Park this past weekend.
The track surface has been completely repaved with fresh asphalt and it is city street smooth ! I had left my 1M at home due to weather concerns and a failing charge pipe. The fresh asphalt had me wanting to check out the course so I took my stock X1 M with M sport package out on track in the instructor session a couple of times. Attached is the second of two full sessions I ran during the weekend. It's on Michelin AS3+ tires which did admirably based on the abuse they were taking. They are an excellent tire in the snow when new as well. With the simple addition of Max performance tires... I feel like the X1 can hold it's own with the likes of E36 M3... E46 ZHP... 128/135... etc on track.. video overlays and data are courtesy of the M performance Drive Analyzer Application for the iphone. Last edited by M3 Adjuster; 06-12-2017 at 06:05 PM.. |

Awesome! Stock height and everything? It seems to do really well. And I like how you're not afraid to track the 28i.
And that app display is cool. I searched for it, and it looks like you need a special OBD 2 plug. Hmm. Last edited by Vidgamer; 06-19-2017 at 08:22 PM.. |

This particular course has very little elevation change.. so the brakes weren't overly taxed.. and I certainly know how to drive a momentum vehicle... the key thing is that it's a BMW... pretty much any BMW is track- worthy even bone stock. I only drove two sessions... I do have a 1M that is my track car... it was not ready for the weekend. The track was newly re-paved and after seeing all that smooth asphalt....I had to go out on course! ... wear on the tires was minimal. With a set of true performance tires...or even track tires, I would have been able to keep up with the red E36 318ti, the white 135, as well as the red E46 ZHP on track tires that was driven by my friend Jeff G. He was genuinely surprised at how hard he had to work to get by me with the car bone stock. I may take it to an autocross this weekend if work doesn't get in the way. With respect to the app.. there is an iphone and an android version available.. and correct you purchase the OBD Dongle and then download the App. They retail for about $200-300 but I have seen them online as cheap as around $140-160 - check ebay. I like the app a lot.. easier to use than a GoPro.. more expensive than Harry's lap timer App.. but also provides direct data from the CANBUS and also can be used to trouble shoot things as well. I suppose one could even use it as a dash cam on a daily basis.. Last edited by M3 Adjuster; 06-19-2017 at 08:53 PM.. |

Blardy awesome!
Is that a 28i or 35i? Pics of the 1M and X1 would be cool! |

I just pulled the X1 out of the garage! It's a 28i RWD. It's already quick as heck.. don't need the six.. if I want to get tickets I'll drive the 1M lol. Here are a few photos for sake of immediate gratification.. Two cars, two seasons ... I'll see if I can find one with them together. |

I drove COTA 3 years ago, and while I don't have Drive Analyzer, I have Scan guage II with corrected 120 mph on straight.
I DID pass a VIPER! I guess I'm no good at downloading vids. I tried a zipped file, and unzipped file. It loads fine on FB. What am I doing wrong? Last edited by 0w40X1; 09-04-2017 at 09:53 PM.. |

Really cool videos! Have you hit the top speed limiter? I noted on the sale brochure that if you got the staggered setup they set the limiter higher, but they don’t say what that is. I’ve purchased the rear wheels to go staggered but I wont switch out until spring. Not that I’ll try to hit the limit that much, but I do want to find a stretch of highway somewhere and try..he he ( I do also drag race), can the limiter be adjusted via coding?

Never intended on being a BMW owner! Never ever considered an X1!
My Son hammered on me and what a surprise. This little 2015 X1 28i S is BADASS! I had to include a few pics from down here in Palm Desert of So Cal. If anybody is down here, holla at me as nobody in the Lo Desert is rippin in em but Grannies. 2015 with 33K when I purchased about a year ago, bone stock. Did a few things to it to make it mine but still need a set of outstanding black wheels, a front cowling change and a 3.5in Drop, and then I'm doing exhaust, air flow and a tune and this thing is Bad AF! Let's step up to So Cal style boys! |
