Help: E84 M Fender Badge Measurements
Hello fellow XBIMMERS!! A couple of weeks to go before my wife and I go get her 2013 X1 xdrive35i. Just waiting for it to get shipped into Denver from NC. Super excited, vehicle is a Mineral White Metallic M Sport with 42k on it. Pretty much fully loaded minus 19s and a couple options.
The car was built in August of 2012 so it’s an early build vehicle, which means no paddle shifters (Sad, but easy enough to add) and no M badges on the front fenders. We know it’s not an M car which is why M badges will be kept very far away from everywhere except factory installed spots. Having said that the wife would like me to get some of the little fender badges and place them on the factory spots properly... (PS $40 a pop..... ) Having said that, I can’t find ANYWHERE, the proper measurements for their placement.. Looked through all the newtis articles on badge placement/ measurements, but nothing on the little M’s. Googled my qss off trying to find anything but can’t... SOOOO..... If anyone could please measure the factory placed mini M badges on their fenders, from the bottom edge of the fender (NOT GROUND..) and the rear most edge of the fenders, that would be amazing and I would appreciate it so much! |

Interesting as I have a 2015 MSport and there are no such badges. Only in certain years?

It would seem that they started applying the M badges to X1 M Sport models in August of 2012 unless he had option code 3DZ- Without Lines Designation. Then the M badges on the fenders we’re omitted. I don’t think any years really got them or didn’t get them. Some did and some didn’t, kind of random it seems.

That is probably a 15 build as we have a 14 build (mfg May 2013) without any badging. Just get the wife an M license plate frame. Still cost ya $40 but easier to install.

FWIW, My X1 35i MSport Ultimate came with badges on the upper fender. I moved them down to the bottom of the front fender in line with the Xdrive emblem on the bottom of the doors... a bit more discreet...It also came with one on the rear hatch... Removed that as well as the X1 emblem... I bought it it was a dealer demo so I doubt a poser added them...

My 2013 M-sport did not have any m-badges on the sides or rear. However, I did buy second-hand, but I doubt they were removed -- it sounds like 2013 just never had them.

my 2013 35i MSport Ultimate had badges on the fenders... Bought it "new", ( was a demo loaner car from dealer)
I moved them to just in front of the 35i Xdrive emblem on the bottom, debadged the rear. Its discrete...enough |

I know this is an old thread. but for the record my 2014 35i M-Sport has badges on the fenders and I have talked to the original owner and he even showed me a picture of the day he took delivery and the M badges were there installed on the fenders straight from Germany.

Okay, I'll jump on the band wagon. My 2015 35i M-Sport does not have the badges. However, I bought mine CPO, so I can't say for sure if it came that way from Germany, or if the previous owner removed them. The only ///M's I can think of on the car are on the door sills, steering wheel, rims, and I think one's molded into the face of the foot support left of the break pedal.

I wondered initially about these M badges, but had done some research back in the day and some m-sports came from the factory with them, some didn't. If you actually look up the car in the various vin decoders, you will see it as a line item saying something about designation or omission. They may look slightly different depending on which decoder you're using, but for example, on one that came without the M badges, you'll see:
S3DZ Omission Of Additional Lettering, Outer OR 3DZ Without Additional Designation Outs If you run the vin on one that has the badging, you'll see another option/something saying it has them. I don't know what the rhyme or reason is behind which got them and which didn't or why, but some came with 'em, some didn't, from BMW. <shrugs> |
