Oil change
Thanks! this post helped me navigate my first change. Great photos. Question: did you torque the filter cover and drain plug to spec? Didn't see this in the post.
Thanks again! |

I change the oil today in my 2.8 X Drive. 5 quarts drained out… I wanted to see how well the oil level indicator works and so I put four quarts in and ran the engine and then I got a message that said I am 1 quart low. I put a full quart in And checked it and it said full . I believe the last time I drained and filled it I used 6 quarts so I put a quarter of a quart in at a time and measured to make sure I did not get an overfill message and I ended up getting in 6 quarts
This indicator does not seem to be very accurate at all my guess is that it can only measure up to 1 quart at a time… Where in my E 92 and three oil indicator could show 1/5 of a quart low |

I am attempting my first oil change on our X1. Is the big O-Ring (where does that go?) and the new plastic drain plug required for every oil change? I got the oil and a Mann filter. But not the other 2 items.

X1 X drives have a reusable metal plug, but you get crush washer. X1 sdrives get a plastic plug. I'm gonna reuse my plastic plug this time. There are 2 different Mann filter kits that give crush washer or new plastic plug. Xdrive refill with 6 quarts while s28i's get 5.5 quarts. My oil level has never moved, so I put half quart in when about 6k miles. I'll drain when OLM is zeroed at about 11k miles and measure how much comes out to predict a reasonable amount to add during oil run. Edit: The used oil filled a 5 quart jug back up, so I guess I don't use much. Last edited by 0w40X1; 11-12-2019 at 03:20 PM.. |

2016 X1 xDrive 28i
Hi,
I cannot find any information for my 2016 X1 about oil changes. ie: the oil filter location and procedure to replace. I know it takes 0-20 syn oil but that's it. Any help to avoid the dealer would be great. Bob |

Please note that Bob's 2016 X1 is the Mini Countryman derivative and employs a FWD-biased transverse engine (b48 or something). The video is for the n20/n26. My suggestion to Bob is to post the question over in the other X1 sub-forum. |

Oil is leaking from my drain plug, I replaced the old one with a new one when I was changing the oil.
How can I fix the leakage. Can you advise that I cover the drain plug in silicon and then screw it in. |
