Possible Vanos Problems?
Hello all,
I have a 2013 X1 35i with 75k miles. Within the last couple of months I noticed the car was starting to run rough at idle, specifically when cold starting. Then a couple of weeks ago the problem got much worse. When cold starting the car, the engine ran rough with the RPM jumping all over the place between 1000 and 500. After 10-15 seconds it seems to level out, but once I put the car in reverse the issues come back for 10-15 seconds. This now happens during every cold start. When driving, the car seems to shift rough, almost as if the engine is struggling to make power. Also when coming to a stop the RPM will dip below the RPM idle for a few seconds then come back to its original idle RPM. I did some research and saw that bad vanos solenoids/clogged solenoids can cause issues with idling, so I replaced both the intake and exhaust solenoids. Seemed to have fixed the problem when I drove the car for 10mins and everything was running smooth again, until I started the car a couple hours later and the problem came back even worse. Now the the car will go into reduced power mode randomly when driving. Been trying to find some pattern when it goes into reduced power mode but cant narrow it down to anything particular. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing these issues? Thank you! |

Where are you on your oil change? It could be related.

Cold start "A" camshaft position Timing Over Retarded Bank 1 Considering I have already replaced both the VANOS solenoids, it could mean my Camshaft position sensor is bad and needs to be replaced. Also, I just changed my oil and the engine seems to be running a bit smoother, but the issues with the engine going into reduced power mode and the poor power delivery is still there. |
