What would you do? - wiring harness rub
Hi.
Short story: I removed the cowl and noticed that a harness was rubbing so much against it that the protective coating came off and is exposing a wire. It is hard to see in the picture though. In the meantime, I taped up the cowl where the two meet in hopes to reduce the friction. Should I cover the exposed wire with some liquid tape? Should I replace the harness? Do you know what harness that is and where I would go for a replacement? Longer story: My 2015 sDrive28i with 62k miles has never had it cowl removed (unless installing the Dinan requires it - in which a BMW dealership did the installation). It is a little disappointing that a wiring harness is rubbing so much that it causes the insulation to come off. I don't think anything shorted, but I imagine that shorting a wire to the ECU would be a PITA! I am thinking of going back to the dealership for help - but I have a feeling the ole warranty clause would come in. I had to remove the cowl because my car was misfiring. I cleared the misfire code and the problem never came back. So I just went on with replacing all the plugs since they were due along with all the coils. I still get nervous driving it now. Thank for reading and any help. |

Get small paintbrush, and brush small debris out. Check each wire to make sure only scratched on top where they don't touch each other. Yeah, put something on it to seal like a few dabs of silicone, and duct tape over that to hold chaffing down.
