Anybody happy with after market nav?
I went back 30 pages of posts looking for examples of aftermarket nav systems for cars that only had the normal radio. I only saw one post and the guy was not happy
I'm wondering if anybody has installed an aftermarket nav system and are happy with it. And if so which one did you get. How hard was it to install. |

CD mounted cell phone mount and a Bluetooth USB/Aux adapter - Done. Even with Nav, I never use it and rely on Google Maps. Why would I pay to update annually when I can get realtime on my Note 8 I already pay for?

I have the tech package w/ nav in mine, however have one of the 10.25" Android systems on the way to me to swap it out. I've found the factory nav to be a decent system, however on trips I'd typically double up with Waze and much prefer using Waze. Additionally, I wanted something with better phone integration and figured I'd give the Android system w/ a CarPlay adapter a shot, although there seems to be some quirks/bugs with that setup, but we'll see.
The guys over on the F30 forum used a Chinese supplier, Ugode, to put together a group buy for the Android systems. I reached out to Ugode and they were able to supply one for the E84, which as I mentioned is in the mail to me now. Here's the thread they've got going over there: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1500481 I'll document the install process and make sure to share it here, along with some feedback on the system's performance. The install looks pretty straightforward- there are some vids on YouTube of a couple installs in non-tech package E84's. I've pulled some of the trim from my dash in anticipation of the install and it looks like I shouldn't run into any issues on the install, but we'll see! |

To add: there are a couple suppliers, Avin and 4x4 Shop Canada, that have 10.25" Android systems for the E84, but they're running Android 4.4 with some pretty outdated hardware. Ugode, and a handful of Chinese suppliers on AliExpress, have slightly more updated systems that run Android 7.1 with better hardware (although it's still pretty outdated, IMO). Ugode was cheaper than both Avin and 4x4 Shop Canada, and seem to be providing some pretty good support to the guys on the F30 forum, so I rolled the dice and went with them.

I use the factory nav, and supplement with google maps.
My main concern with after market setups that I've seen is the crap resolution. Haven't seen a credible looking alternative. |

Magnet mount, cellphone or ipad mini, pointless for onboard nav unless its really local stuff.

Hi Have one of these...
https://www.sardincar.com/bmw-x1-e84...imedia-player/ I had the No Signal issue - see this forum thread... https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1500481 Yanzi from Sardincar was very helpful. The software/firmware updates he provided (from his supplier) didn't work so he replaced the unit. I think the supplier changed the PCB. I installed it last week and it is working with no problems. It came with iGO Navigation but you can install any Android nav system you like.. You can also mirror your phone (Android or iPhone). I'm very happy with the unit. |

I bought my X1 about a month ago and just finished installing this AVIN unit over the weekend: https://avinusa.com/10-25-bmw-x1-ser...on-system.html
I'm honestly pretty damn impressed with it after the install, but it took me a very long time to complete the installation and there were a few bugs to work out. Give me a shout if you have any questions. Last edited by AK_Wes; 11-07-2018 at 11:49 AM.. |

I have the factory NAV and use Waze way more often than the built-in NAV.
