VRSF Catted DP?
Anyone using the catted DP from VRSF?
Can't go catless here in NC - visual inspections, not just tailpipe sniff. |

Nope, sorry - catless. No inspections and didn't want to spend the extra $$$. Don't the high flow catted versions have the risk of failing the sniff test on top of throwing codes anyway?

Hmmm, shouldn't fail the sniff - not sure about throwing codes. That's part of why I'm asking.

That's standard. I don't know of any state that doesn't have a visual inspection. However, hardly any states sniff, that's why you can get away with a catless DP. The visual inspection, usually, doesn't result in an inspector either seeing, or caring, about a catless DP...especially when the rest of the exhaust looks stock, including secondary cats/resonators. In NC, if you don't throw a CEL with the readiness completed, you're good-to-go...outside of a cowboy inspector looking closely and giving you a hard time.

Hmmm, it would appear you're right, no sniff test. I would have sworn I read they did sniff tests when we moved here back in '07 and I've (obviously) never actually watched any of the guys do the actual inspection. Just an OBD "emissions check" according to the NCDOT website. Last edited by hooligan_G01; 01-04-2018 at 03:24 PM.. |

I ran a catless turbo-back exhaust on my STi back home, but not sure what I want to do with the X1. |

In my experience the catless DP with stock exhaust really doesn't drone. It has more growl on startup, and I don't notice extra noise cruising on the highway. I need to find someone to record while I do some drive-bys but I haven't had time.

A bit louder on startup, and quite nice sounding pulling away when standing outside the car (like quiet but you know somethings up...). Inside the car is like 99% stock.
