"Restoring" leatherette?
My X1 has SensaTec/leatherette, but it doesn't feel quite like leather -- it feels a bit dry and rough. Is it supposed to feel more like leather? I've tried a couple of different styles of Meguiar's leather cleaner/conditioner, and I think that helped. I also have 1z Cockpit Premium. I'm thinking maybe I could try the 1z vinyl cleaner, but the seats don't look particularly dirty. Is there anything that could "restore" the leatherette? Or is it supposed to be like this?
I've done a number of searches, and found nothing really definitive, although there were a couple of recommendations on this thread where the OP specifically mentions the same issue. I'm not sure if these products are substantially different than what I have, though. http://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1142455 |

Having tried many cars equipped with pleather and genuine leather, there are still some differences b/t the two. It might be down to the grain of the material. Leather breaths well too. Not as scratchy as pleather. I guess if you always wear jeans and full shirt, that might be OK.
I don't know if any lotions would help. FWIW, MB's pleather aren't any better. Also there are varying levels of leather from basic "this is leather, deal with it" to "ohmigosh I want to cuddle here awhile" type of leather. Our X1's more the former. |
