Eibach/Bilstein B12 lowering kit
AJUSA has the B12 kit on sale right now for $699 shipped. Also if you use the promo code BILKITMAR at check out you get an extra $15 off. Total price shipped $684.79. Comes with Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks/struts. Says it should provide 30mm drop.
I just ordered this set-up. It will be a while before it's delivered and a bit longer for me to get the chance to install it. I'll update this post down the line when I do. In the meantime, who out there is running this kit? Impressions? If you could please post some pictures after driving/settling. I posted this in the 'Shock/Strut thread' but figured it would be easier to start a new thread. It's tough to find info specifically for this kit. |

I see what you're saying but don't want to go that low. I want a slightly more aggressive look. Close the wheel gap a bit. And obviously better handling. I had a car with Eibachs and Koni adjustables and it was the best handling car I ever had and it was still very comfortable to drive.

That is a great deal for the price. Get Z4 rear bump stops, trim the fronts and you should have a well-sorted car.
Can you go on a trip with 4 adults + luggage in an X1 with coilovers? I would imagine it would be riding bump stops the whole time. |

P.S. I PM'd you a little while back about the intake you said you wanted to sell in another post. Shoot me a PM when you get a chance and let me know if it's still for sale. |

Why would you say that? It's highly debatable and very subjective. I've owned multiple sets of both. The high pressure gas/inverted Bilstein monotubes ride completely different vs. the twin-tube Konis. They are much, much better with big impacts, and offer much more road feel. Some might consider them too "firm" on small imperfections, but they're actually more forgiving on large obstacles (you really can't bottom them out). The Bilsteins also last longer. The Konis ride smoother, with less small impacts, but struggle with the big stuff. Of course, the adjust-ability is a plus. I will say, for my daily driver's, I've converted to Bilsteins, as have many others. Many people don't need an adjustable shock, and actually prefer the feel of an inverted monotube. Don't even think Koni's are an option for this car anyway...so...

I also trimmed the Bilstein "internal" stops on the front struts, but I believe others haven't with no issues.

I have the B12 kit and I'm really enjoying it. I did nothing with the bump stops and have had no issues. As Prem Apex suggests, I do feel the small stuff, but I've never bottomed-out on the bigger stuff. Handling is greatly improved.

Thanks for the info you guys, and thank for the pic Ja Gio, your X1 looks great!
Like prematureapex said even if they had Koni adjustables for this car I don't think I'd take full advantage of adjusting them. I kinda like the set it and forget it aspect of the cup kit. I do like the option of just trimming the rear bump stops and re-using them. Save money where ya can etc. |

It is only my opinion having had Koni yellows on two other vehicles. the ride was firmer yet the ride quality better. i consider my g35 to be a comparable ride to my X1. despite being much lower, the ride quality and handling are so much better. i would easily have gone Koni for my X1 were they available. They have proven extremely durable. I have heard some reports of leaks but by and large they will probably last the life of the car.
I have had the Bilsteins long enough to appreciate them but they still leave me wanting... at least on h&r springs. i wish the setup was even more damped. |

You're not going to find the car to feel underdamped on HDs and H&Rs. Most people would claim it's even a hair over...as is often the case with HDs.

Lowering
I'm looking forward to lowering my car. I just bought KW V3 system for my car and the rear sits a lower than my liking. If you want to stance your x1 I will be selling my v3 $1,800 OBO. Hit me up.

Tony3,
So you have M sport already. Doesn't it handle perfect, and is already slightly lowered from NOn M Sport? The suspension and handling felt perfect on MY s28i M Sport, so I'd not change shocks or springs. The only help it needed was to get rd of that rythmic sway at high speed. I noticed that the front track is 1.1 inch shorter than rear so I evened out with 12 mm spacers on front only. That nearly fixed it, and when I put less grabby ceramic brAKES ON rear, that completed it. No more jerk and squirt when taking off while turning. I'm curious to see your review of MSport vs B12. I have B12 on a Mazda RX8, and I like how it sets, but it's way more stiff on bumps than comfort and control of S28i which has no roll either. Also, stickier Michelin PS4S does wonders. |
