It appears the update on our car is finally working. Can pretty consistently connect to the Weather app through BMW Online. I would test it more, but it's my wife's car so I don't get to drive it much.
In any case, if there was a speed upgrade, I can't notice it. And does anyone else think the Online "features" are poorly documented. I tried getting Pandora to work without success and am not sure why. |

BMW App and Upgrade
I bought my first BMW-a sleek X1 28i 2014-used this summer. Since my last 4 cars were Saab, I feel like I am on a new planet, trying to learn the language. Thanks for the helpful responses on these posts.
Thanks also for the info about the BMW app. I didn't even realize this was a thing. I tried to download it, but it doesn't seem to be working. Not sure if it's the wrong app or I just need tech support. Sounds like the retrofit is the way to go, since I rely on maps and my car (safety features) for my work, yes? It sounds like there are a ton of features that I haven't tapped yet. Is there a "cliff notes" version of "All things I should know" about my new car? Also searching for the best winter tires and rims, but I see a different thread for that. Thanks in advance for any helpful input! |

If you haven't already, set up an account on the MyBMW site. You will have access to a bunch of instructional videos that might help describe some of the features, although they may also frustrate you when you see what can be done but still can't figure out how to make them work.

If it's a used purchased you probably have to do both steps. I'm not sure the service contract transfers but you can ask them. I think the retrofit is the way to go. My wife's car is in for the new combox and programming right now EDIT: it is taking about 1.5 days to do this. ~0.5 day for combox replacement 0.5 day for programming, and the rest of the time waiting/downtime Last edited by nicknaz; 12-27-2016 at 12:45 AM.. hi all,
just wanted to report back that I finally got the new combox in our car. At first glance, the features that use the internet connection (e.g. sending messages to car, unlocking car, online search in iDrive) seem to be working faster |
