603X1,
I'm in the same situation and have spoke with BMW a couple of times. Yes, when your lease is up you take it back to them, the contract was fulfilled by both parties. You could not buy your car at the end of the lease because its on the "No Sell List" They were given a an extension (I think it was 3 years) and so your car is considered safe to drive. Because of the delay in replacement parts they have a temporary fix kit which gives them more time. The new airbags and fix kits are being made by Takata. The are the only manufacturer with the design, tooling, and production to produce the number needed. If another company came in it could take up to 2-5 years to get production up and certified by the government agencies that approve airbags in their countries. The folks you speak with its not there fault but the have to face the public. I sure the good people and need to follow the party line. The have families and need to pay the rent like everybody else. Lets treat them with respect. Those who created this are who knows and you can never tell them your thoughts. As one of the greatest philosophers of the past 20 years would say may he rest in peace "what are you gonna do" |

I am in a Northern climate and received notice two weeks ago that the airbag was in, replaced it yesterday. So it looks like the recalled airbags are available nationwide.
I was using a rental loaner so that might have expedited the recall. |

Are you sure it wasn't replaced by an identical airbag?

I called BMW customer service as the local dealer was useless. The CS rep was very nice and knowledgeable.
She said anyone getting them now are just getting the same model airbags put back in (but they're newer so they're less prone to fail). She said the new design won't be available until next year. She said the dealers have been instructed to make nice with folks trying to trade. |

This is just pathetic. My experience with BMW has been abysmal (horrible dealer service, no return calls from corporate, brakes shot at 60K miles, etc.). My next post will be a pic of the new Audi I have on order.

You diss BMW and forget VW/Audi and their TDI scam? From the frying pan right into the fire. WTF?

I know. I even considered going back to Acura - owned three of their vehicles (all trouble free) before my foray into BMW. Thing is, the fact that their (BMW's) cars drive so well still doesn't mitigate the lousy dealer/service experience or the absolutely shitty resale value. Sorry - don't shoot the messenger.

I went to trade in my 13 X1 and the dealer also only offered me $13,000, saying they wouldn't be able to sell it. I told them that black book showed $14K-$17K trade in value, but they didn't seem to care. Has anyone had any luck getting assistance from BMW USA on their trade in values? |

On the positive side, it doesn't show a recall for Takata airbags. It's a 2013. Does that mean they fixed it already or what? |

Yeah, I paid double their offer two years ago for my CPO car. For that low offer I'll just keep it and drive it into the ground. I just feel like BMW should be offering some kind of incentive over the whole Takata fiasco since it has obviously hurt the value of our cars.

I was told on 2/10/2017 that it would Q3 of 2017 before my replacement airbag would be ready; then they added, "at least, that is what we've been told." Then I was told that the replacements are having issues too and they are now replacing the replacements.
Then I asked for new windshield wiper blades and was quoted a $600 package that included tire rotation. I declined their offer. |

Airbag replaced
My dealer suggested I call BMW customer service to ask to get my airbag replaced. I told them I was planning to sell the car this spring, but couldn't with an open safety recall. Three weeks later, I now have a new airbag, and no open recalls. Just thought I would share my experience. Happy trails.
