2015 X1 Hi Fi Sound
So I am looking to buy a second X1 E84 for myself. Love the bloody thing so much that I want one as a DD for crapy days.
We have a truly fully loaded 2012 X1 that is just amazing. Mine was a car show vehicle (and the second or third in North America) so it has all the bells and whistles. Unfortunately the new X1 does not work for me. I was open and tried to give it a chance and I just cant. The seat position it is like in Tiguan (aka toilet position), the seats are narrower and less comfortable with no support for legs, the engine is weak with a different transmission that doesn't do it for me, the shifter and dash board are terrible, the driving experience is not there, the handling is nowhere near the E84 and it is a long list which doesn't matter anyway. The idea is that I am looking for a used E84 X1 with some low mileage. Unfortunately they either don't have lighting package, either no premium package, sound package, driver package and so on. I have tried to order a new one in 2015 while it was still possible but couldn't get the Harman Kardon sound system with 11 high-performance loudspeakers. It was available in a 3.5 though at the time, but they did not take orders for it anymore. The Harman Kardon System (that I have) has badges on the doors (opposing the external mirrors), a central speaker in the top of the dash, two big subwoofers aunder the front seats, power amplifiers, and will always have graphic equalizer settings in the head unit’s menu, as well as a “Logic 7 On/Off” or “Surround On/Off” option. Mine has it. On the newer vehicles all I can see now on the internet is HI-Fi system. Because some vehicles are miles away, I would like to know few things before buying a plane ticket to see the cars. The problem is that back in 2012 the packages were different. So my question for those of you that have a 2014-2015 E84 X1 is: do you have the specific speakers and amplifiers like in the attached picture? If yes, what code it has, how is it called in your case, and in which package is included? I forgot to mention that mine is a 2.8i. I have the impression that after 2012 BMW did not offered the Harman Kardon in a 2.8 anymore, but wanted to clear out and understand what is the content of the "HiFi" system. Thank you. Note I found a list with options for 2015 in HERE Last edited by Teutonic; 04-03-2016 at 10:38 PM.. |

The HiFi system (also known as Professional I believe) has 6 speakers: tweeters and mid range in the front doors and mid range in the rear doors. Bavsound has a good review by a forum member in here and they ship 8 speakers (two extra tweeters for the back) that run off of the factory amp, but they offer an amp as well.
I have the HiFi system in my 2013 and I really like it but I am considering the bavsound speakers at some point in the future. Hope this helps |

Thank you for your reply. I am looking at some cars on the internet, it seems that mine is quite rare, none has what I have. Even if I watch movies the sound is amazing!
I am not interested in upgrading or modifying the vehicle. Thanks I found this link: http://musicarnw.com/bmw-factory-audio-explained/ |

Why not modify? Seems that would open up a number of options in terms of which cars you could be looking at. The bavsound speakers are plug and play (they use the same mounting points and same connectors).
Also (though somewhat off topic) I would recommend CPO based on personal experience with my CPO, feedback I've seen here, and really just plain logic. |

I think you'll have to listen yourself OP. There too many variables, such as the source you listen to, and how picky you are with audio.
I'm not an audiophile, and listen mostly to streamed youtube or pandora, and I think the base (hifi) stereo in our x1 is fine I would have ordered it with HK, but base stereo didn't stop me from taking a great deal off the dealer lot... |

My 2014 X1 s28i M Sport has that stock radio, and It's the best sound I've ever heard in a car.
On FM channels for instance the sound varies from crap like it's AM to massive bass on the Hip Hop channels; that's the station transmission not the radio. I ORDERED no paid upgrades except Mineral white paint and M Sport, and it's the car of my dreams. Halogens lights even seem good enough to drive 80mph at night. I hear people talk about malfunctioning stuff all over the car that is in extra packages. Less is more in my world. |

Kinda surprising how hard it is to find a fully loaded Used X1. Mine has everything except lighting package (so no auto high beams or interior LED) or HK audio.
Wasn't happy with basic (hi fi) sound so upgraded to Bavsound speakers. They're likely superior to HK. I wouldn't (and didn't) let lack of HK audio break the deal. Listen to the hi fi system. You may find it adequate. Many people do. |

The 35i's come with a lot of upgrades stock that the 28i's don't. Also, I got my 35i for 6k under invoice since it was a loaner (only 3.5miles). If you want a performance vehicle, are you really concerned about 3 MPG? I get 20 MPG in this I6 in traffic, and only got 21 in my I4 Mazda 6. 30-40k for a car, and you care about a few hundred a year in automotive gas bills? Most people spend that much by leaving their water heater on all day every day.

The s28i is dream to drive, and i can barely get traction on the 255/40r18 P7 summer tires.
I'm sure the x35i are fun, too, but they come with lots of extra weight, so not necessarily better even if no more cost. I test drove a 435 coupe, and yeah, it was great, but power band was different (higher), and I actually like the low end diesel like power of the 2.0 liter turbo 28i engine. It's all apples and oranges on options and preferences with BMW. |

My 2015 X1 28i has hi fi not harmon kardon upgrade. It sounds good to me specially with subwoofer under the seat. I just ordered a 12 inch powered sub from jl audio TW1. Can't wait till it gets here and have it installed.

My last X1 had everything, including the HK sound, and i loved it. Sadly after it was crashed I was on a short time table to get another one, and wound up with an identical one just missing the HK sound. I really miss the HK Mines a lease and im toying with the idea of doing bav anyway....

I have a base model (no-line) '13 35i, and AFAIK it has the standard setup (prem. pkg.) with door tweeters, and dual subs. Sounded pretty muddy to me until I started using flash drive into the USB port. With a good digital source, I think it sounds great. You can't use an iPod w/o going through the analog mini-plug, and that sounds terrible. Forgot to mention; you have to have optional upgrade in some years to get a BT connection, without a converter. Personally, that doesn't matter to me, as I don't use a phone for music, and I've been told BT doesn't have that much better sound quality than FM.

The N20 makes 255 ft-lbs. at 1250 RPM. The N55 makes 300 at 1200 RPM. So...the N55 makes MORE power, sooner, vs. your N20. What are you saying then? That you don't like more power, everywhere? The N20 is great by itself, without having to try so hard to justify it vs. the N55.

I use youtube and others to stream via usb. Youtube can have 160kbps audio, and i guess im not an audiophile enough to know the difference between that and lossless, esepcially in a car. Music from phone is pretty convenient these days edit: why did we suddenly talk about engines in this thread? And since we are talking about it, i would love to see the s55 +dct from my m3 in an "x1m" |

Just wanted to confirm, does Alpine HiFi have equaliser in iDrive screen or is it only with HK? If it doesn't then I guess one don't need to code after HiFi installation? Thanks

The base model hifi stereo in ours does not have EQ in Idrive. It's just treble bass fade and balance
