vanity visor light - retrofit? (without ambient light pkg)
Just picked up a fully loaded (minus ambient lighting) X1, 35i.
Has anyone ever attempted to install an OEM visor vanity light? The misses really likes having one. The visors in my car don't seem to be wired, so I thought to plumb the wiring to the map light (i.e. having it switch on/off with the right map light). I was thinking about doing this on the passenger side only. thoughts? Anyone pull this off? Any other ideas? |

Probably need the headliner with the molding for the lamps. It's an odd oversight for what is a relatively expensive vehicle in 35i trim especially.

I suspect I can cut a hole in the headliner. I am hopeful there are openings in the vehicle frame behind it. if I know there is constant power at the dome light,I might consider swapping the visors for the visors with switches. curious if anyone pulled off this type of retrofit.

There is probably some constant power, but the switches are just buttons and the lights are computer controlled (if left on, they go off when you lock the car and don't come on after). So you might have to feed in to the entire dome console.
