DIY - X1 Phone cradle removal needs help
Hi there,
I try to disassemble the armrest in order to remove phone cradle. However, my X1 x20d 2010 does look the same as any instruction on this forum. Anyone knows how to de-attach the cradle please help me. - I could remove the back of armrest as you see in the photo - Remove the top one as well but the armrest and the cradle seem to be a whole unit. I try to put a pin which connect them together from left to right and right to left but does not work at all. Thanks |

I never really looked at these adapters before, but HOLY CRAP are they crazy expensive. Upwards of $200 for a glorified usb cable? Are you kidding me?
Sorry I don't have anything helpful. Worst case, you can always take a Dremel to it. Good luck! |

I pushed from the right side to the left. Had to give it a bit of elbow grease to get going, but after that, it was easy.

One more cover hole inside cubby use thin cardboard or plastic + super glue. Maybe some made few pics and better description how remove back panel of center console. It took me over an hour, but mainly because I struggled on disconnecting the wires. Removing the back cover was no problem using a flat screwdriver to start the process. I used a nail set and a mallet hammer to start pushing the axle pin toward the drivers seat. Removing the blue/pink cable was no problem since the release lever was fairly obvious. Removing the pink/black cable was difficult until I found that I had to remove the pink cover in the photo below. I pried it out with a flat screwdriver. The release is under this cover. |

Look closely at the pin. One side of the pin has grooves in it, similar to the hinge pins on the doors.
The grooves are what lock it in place. It needs to be whacked out, pushed from the opposite side which is tapered. BTW, I did it the wrong way and it still worked, just a bit harder. Last edited by Alanintx; 08-22-2015 at 06:48 PM.. |

It's been a long time since this thread was active, but I thought I'd add that there is a cap you can put in the hole that is there after removing the phone cradle if you want a more finished look.
