2015 X1 x28 vs 2015 X1 x35.
Hey there,
My local dealership has both and I'd like to know the major differences in the cars. The x28 is a Sport Line and the x35 is a no-line. They both have premium, xenon, HK, 18" wheels, and pano. From driving them both, I can be sure the brakes in the x35 are better and even though I'm pretty sure only the MSport comes with the sport suspension (which neither are), the x35's suspension feels tighter. Also, the six speed auto in the x35 feels more crisp in its shifts than the x28. Lastly, the x35 feels more like my e92 335 than the x28. Is the suspension between the two difference and are there other differences in the chassis/driveline I'm missing?

Since you prefer the x35i gearbox it should be a no brainer for you. For me it was the opposite.

Yeah, i wouldn't let the "crisp"ness of the shifts play a factor. The 8 speed is clearly the better performing transmission.
The X35 feels like your 335 because it essentially that. It's all 335 xdrive underneath. |

Perhaps "old Archie" had driven a 35i that had the Alpina trans upgrade? Mine pretty much seems a slush box.

There's no real difference in suspension, the 35i probably has a stiffer rate in the front to accommodate for the extra engine weight.

Main difference is the transmission. Most people prefer the 8 speed. That said, with my test drive of the x28, I just felt like it was slow. Does not build speed as effortlessly like the x35. With the Alpina transmission flash, the slow shifting of the 6 speed on the x35 is mostly remedied and for me is a no-brainer.

Weird? With the exception of the trans, the differences are the same as any other x28 to x35 car in BMW's lineup (or any other engine upgrade in any of their platforms). You're buying an engine upgrade. And with that nearly always comes bigger brakes and suspension changes reflecting the typical weight changes.

I mean no real difference in how it feels. It's not going to feel different as going from a regular BMW to an M car.

Fuel economy-wise, I just had a countryside weekend trip in Maryland with almost all highway driving. I used mostly Eco Pro mode and my Xdrive 28i averaged a 24mpg, better than my yearly average of 18mpg. I could never get anywhere near the advertised 23/33mpg. I could just imagine had I bought a 35i how much more money I had to spend on gas.

EcoPro doesn't do anything useful on the 35i so I've never really used it. |

My average since I've bought my car is almost 28 MPG. That includes since I've installed both JB4 and Dinan. Most of my driving is highway, but still, it's not that bad. Eco pro seems to actually help a lot on the highway for the 28i.

My best highway trip was a bit over 29 mpg on my 35i, driving about 65-70.
everyday mixed driving ( my daughter drives the car mostly) is about 24mpg |

So is it possible my 28i in particular is not functioning properly? The weekend trip I took my average speed from the trip stat was just below 50mph. I used mostly Eco Pro, with accumulated mile bonus of +70 miles out of a total 670 miles travelled. Yet the gas mileage at the end barely reached 25mpg. On my way back from Maryland to New York, I drove 285 miles without any traffic on the interstate. Me and my wife was the only occupants and we were not carrying cargo. I used Shell 93 Oct fuel. I wanted to push for the best fuel economy ratings so I was very easy on the gas, other than maybe a dozen sprint to get around slow moving cars. My car is a 2014 with 21K miles and just services last month.

Maybe you're still getting winter gas. That might have a bit to do with it. I think I get better mileage because my car is lowered which helps wind resistance a bit. Like improvius mentioned, things like a roof rack, those window rain vents etc will lower fuel economy. Tires play a big role too.
I seem to be one of the very few 28i guys that gets really good mileage, the rest seem to be worse than the 35i.
