Good point, heck get a Prius if you want MPG bragging rights.

s28drive with staggered wheels (245 front and 275 rear).
Without the Burger Tuning chip installed we get around 25.5-26.5mpg with 60% city. With it installed we get between 24-25mpg, 60% city. On a road trip with factory wheels and tire sizes, we got right around 28mpg, 85% highway, plenty of throttle from cruise control. I think the EPA estimates for the AWD BMW's are always extremely optimistic, but on rwd models it seems to be correct. |

It's probably more like the X1 than the Prius is. |

Back when this site was an infant I did just that... I don't know how to search it out, though. We've since added mud flaps, rear bumper protector and 3M Crystalline tint, but for the most part it looks the same.
I'll see if I can scrounge it up. |

I don't know the best way to do this, but here's the link to the day it was installed.

Getting Good MPG
I have a Hyundai Sonata which I drive with eco pro on and get ~30MPG 30/70% city/highway. It has a cd of about .29. On the highway, I get the table below:
50MPH 50MPG 60MPH 40MPG 75MPH 35MPG This is with foot constantly on the pedal ensuring a consistent load on the engine which means slightly slower on uphills and slightly faster on downhills. I've driven the X1 for 1000 miles and it's a totally different beast. With Eco Pro: 50MPH 50MPG 60MPH 40MPG 75MPH 30MPG This falls inline with the large frontal surface area and the .35 drag coefficient. Without eco pro, I get drastically worst numbers and if I inconsistently press the pedal, the MPG drops by 10-20MPG at the same speed. The only way to get the highest numbers is to drive anemically. I've done an 120 mile trip on less than 3 gallons in the X1 and I've also done a 50 mile trip on 3 gallons. MPG is 2/3 driving style and 1/3 the car you drive.

Recently I did a roundtrip from Bay Area to LA. I got 29.5 mpg going south (tailwind) and about 27.0 mpg going north (headwind). I got some traffic going south. I travelled at 75-80 mph and average speed going down was about 65 mph and going north about 70 mph. A/C was on both ways.
I think driving at 65-70 mph probably 30+ highway mpg is easily attainable. My overall average for 6k miles is 25 mpg (45/55 city/highway). |

I have a 2013 X1 28 sdrive with 15,000 miles and the avg according to my computer is 22 miles since I bought it. If someone's getting 34 I want to trade X1's. The best mileage was 30.5 on two 1000 mile trips but around town we average maybe 21 and we do 80% city but it's not like NY city.

I drive around town every 2 to 3 days and occasionally have a road trip. I have scangauge which resets everytime you start up. I average about 22mpg driving through town even though it can get about 50 mpg at 50 mph. When I go on open highway instead of driving 60mph and getting 35mpg, I drive 80mph (speed limit) on interstate which can be 23mpg sometimes especially if there's front wind. My worst average is about best I could get out of RX8 or Dakota 4.7l so I'm happy with mpg for the power it gives. |
