'Campaign' for struts on X1?
Just finished talking to our salesperson; apparently our X1 is being delayed at port due to a 'campaign' involving the front struts. I presume 'campaign' is a BMW euphemism for 'recall'. Of course, I'd far rather that the car be repaired before we get it, but it certainly has backed up when we can expect it.
Is anyone else familiar with this particular issue, or can shed any light on exactly what problem the factory is trying to address? Thanks, Moon Last edited by halfmoonclip; 11-21-2013 at 10:52 PM.. |

There was a very good thread on how to track your vehicle. If you have the production number you can call BMW and they can tell you what is happening with your vehicle.

As no one else seems tangled up, I'm starting to suspect a bit of BS from my dealer; a little time needed to touch up a door nick, perhaps.
In any case, I'll stop down and see if I can get a VIN (is that what I need, or is the production number something different?) and pursue the situation. Anything further from the group would be appreciated. Thanks, Moon |

My x28 arrived @ NJ VPC on 3 OCT and was there until 13 NOV.
I never got an answer as to the delay. It was a Military sales order so may have been low priority. |

Unfortunately once your vehicle is unloaded from the ship the automated phone attendant information service usually says to check with your CA (salesperson). You can try though... (800) 831-1117 and use the 7 digit order number or the last 7 of your VIN when prompted. Good luck.

When and where did you ship it from Germany? I figured it would only be 30 days from Germany to USA but maybe I need to adjust my estimate?

The PROBLEM was that it spent six weeks at the VPC before it was sent to my local dealer in PA. Your 30 day estimate from GE to US is ok.

Let us hope that our car isn't lost in the wilds of New Joisy for too much longer; if I could get a rational explanation (is there really a recall involving the struts?), I'd feel better.
This in-between cars thing is a PITA. Moon |

Suspension recall
When I took my 2013 X1 to have it's winter tires installed on November 06 the service advisor indicated that there was a recall on the vehicle related to the front suspension. He mentioned something about "seating" problem and that the repair was going to take about 3 hours as they have to drop the front suspension.
He said that this was a very new recall and that the dealership had not yet received the necessary repair kits from BMW. Have not received a recall notification from BMW, but it was on his computer when he plugged in the key fob. |

Availability of the 'kits' from BMW corporate may well be the issue that's holding things up. I'm somewhat relieved that someone else has at least heard of the recall; it was sounding a bit like a manufactured excuse for awhile.
I'm going to ride it out as best possible; after Thanksgiving and High Holy Hunting Season here in Westsylvania, we'll see what the situation looks like. Another dealer called me today, and I may go back for another look at a VW GTI. Moon |
