Is the X1 xdrive 35i a great sleeper car or what?
I have been reading the forums and did a LOT of research before buying this car (SAV, crossover, thing??)
What struck me odd is no automobile review seems to comment on just how fast it is for the money. Even stock with "just" a low 5 second 0-60... I realized I am at least as fast with a Dinan stage 2 as my old Jeep SRT8. With 21+ mpg, no maintenance costs (except tires), and better fit and finish. Is it because its just the "little SAV"? As it is not an ///M ,or AMG, or SRT, no one thinks of it as fast. So I think it qualifies as a "sleeper" car... Not sure why this SAV doesn't get better reviews. The X3/X5 are great machines, but it takes big power (and big $/bad mpg) to make them as fast as the "little" X1. X3 35i is 350 lbs more, X5 50i is 1500! Anyway, comments & thoughts? (Before any haters say it, if I had a 100 large to blow, yes, I would roll in a X5M |

The adjective “sleeper” means someone or something unpromising or unnoticed that suddenly gains prominence or value.
I don’t think the X1 is a sleeper car because it still hasn’t gained prominence yet. I’d say it’s still relatively new and unknown. I think BMW has too many vehicles with an Xn name where n={1, 3, 5, 6, etc.} so it’s just another X car. |

People classify it as an SUV. It's not. It's neither an offroad vehicle nor a soccer-mom car.
It's a tall hatchback wagon, if anything. And yes, the 35i is a sporty car. Sleeper, not as in not popular yet, but as in being more than it appears. People are used to much slower X3s and X5s, and don't realize that this thing will park a Z4 28i. |

I meant sleeper as in faster than people would expect...
Not many vehicles are like that. People expect the fancy ones to go fast Good replies. The X "vehicles" really are very different. I agree, the X1 IS more of a tall wagon (like the first Forester XT that surprised people too with its speed), the X3 a small/mid sized SUV, and the X5 big SUV. The X6, gran coupes, etc do get a bit confusing though... I don't confuse it with an M car, it is still not at that level. |

It started out as a crossover E53, and has grown into a small SUV, with an optional third row seat for children making it a soccer-mom / golfer car. |

Based on that, a high spec X1 could be a contender for the label... |

Ask that guy in his S5 yesterday. Definitely wasn't expecting that. ( I do have the Dinan Stage 2 though)
