2014 X1 Loaner - non iDrive - how to listen to iPhone Music
I have a loaner for a week. I was able to pair my iPhone via Bluetooth for the phone functions, but I cannot get it to recognize the iPhone when I plug it into the USB port to listen to music. When I plug the iPhone in the USB slot and it begins charging, and hit the large AUDIO button on the upper left, and select USB, it keeps telling me to "Insert USB".
What am I doing wrong?

That is weird ... I do not have IDrive and my radio " BMW Professional" has no problem to recognize my Ipod Nano thru the USB slot and let me choose the songs on the 2lines radio screen... Your radio may the "BMW Business" type that has less functionalities. In the worst case scenario you may want to use the standard input aside the USB slot to plug your IPod.

Yep, the the Y-cable splits the Apple 36-pin connector into the 3.5mm audio jack and the USB plug. The USB is used for charging only (since you don't have the iDrive). If you want to listen to music, just use a 3.5mm Male-Male audio cable.

USB is used for iPod control by the business radio and steering wheel in addition in addition to charging.
Also, the 30-pin connection gives a line level signal and the quality is better than the headphone jack. |
