Canadians! Read this!
To all my canadian bros, did you guys that bought a 28i sport line get flappy paddle shifters? Or are they a hidden option? I'm hoping they're a hidden option and not standard. Also, did you get a fold down rear armrest? Or is that deleted with the sport line pkg? Any other helpful info/input would also be appreciated.
Thanks guys. Twix |

According to the 2013 build sheet, paddle shifters aren't an option.
Maybe you can special order them. Not sure about the 2014's.

The idea is, I don't want them. The 2014 sheet lists all X1s coming with the "sport steering wheel". That option in 2012 meant the paddles. Not that I won't buy if it comes with it, I'd just rather it not have them.
My SA also said since he's only sold 1 sport line, that he couldn't remember if it had it or not. Although, he did say he thinks it did have them. |

I just don't like them. I'm not a 17 year old who's going to race hondas with this thing. I just find they aren't cool in general, no matter what they're in. If I wanted to bang gears, I'd buy something with a real manual, or a DCT. Paddle shifters on an automatic, in an "SUV" are kinda like thongs on a girl that stands 5' tall and weighs 200lbs.

Nothing will ever compare to a real, gated manual.

I could'nt disagree more ... I had always "loved" my old manual cars for sure but thi 8 speed shiftronic is a real pleasure to play with.
The paddles are great, good looking, metal build ( no plastic ) good positioning and most of all they are reacting quickly enough to let me think this was a double clutch ... I had to go back to the spec to realize this was "only" a shiftronic. So, it is a really good shiftronic. A small SAV like this really benefits the presence of paddles. My X1 is a 2012 28i with sport pkg. At the time for 1500 $ this pkg was coming with sport seats, 18" wheels and the paddles. A great deal. I think the new set of pkg are way more pricey ... Anyway, get the paddles if you can. You won't regret it. Have a nice day |

You may be in luck Twix.
From comparing the 2013 and 2014 build sheets, I can't see paddle shifters anywhere as an option. You can get the regular leather sport wheel, or the M sport wheel. But any wheel with paddle shifters doesn't seem to be possible. If someone actually really wants them, I'm sure that's possible but you'd have to pay extra for it.

Most bimmers come with hill descent control, no real need to downshift to engine brake. Even in my manual truck, I hardly ever downshift going down the mountains. I would bet that most people don't really slow down for the down slopes unless it's winter.

Not for mountain driving when you are going 100Km/hr A down shift to slow you at the bottom of a hill and a corner, and then have the RPM's to accelerate out would be ideal. Hmmmm, now that sounds like fun!

You Sure ??? You put doubt in my mind so I just went outside to double checked ... The entire paddle is some kind of aluminium and on the front there is some black plastic integrated. But by the sound of it when I tip it with the point of my finger, I'm 100 % sure this is no plastic ...

It's useless for normal engine braking, where you don't want to overheat or wear out your brakes during long descents. Given that you don't seem to know what engine braking is and how it differs from HDC, I really don't want to be on Coquihilla highway at the same time as you... |
