If it does, I'm sold on it. It'd be a little cheaper with what I want on a X1 compared to having to option up with a bunch of stuff I don't want on a a 28.

I do know for certain, xenon still isn't available without premium on the 2014 s/xdrive28i, my CA built a xdrive28i 2014 for me just to check that fact.
Not sure on the transmission, the xDrive35i 2013 and 2014 both have a build code of 205 for the transmission, which at first I thought meant it's staying 6 speed but the 2013 and 2014 xDrive28i's also show 205 for the transmission code. I'm personally hoping they don't change to the 8 speed on the 35, the 8 speed isn't as bullet proof and I like the driving feel of the 6 speed far more than the 8 speed but it's just personal preference. The 8 also speed isn't as extra fuel effecient as you'd think, and the 8 speed hurts 0-60 times. Hopefully any day now we'll see the dealer packets for the X1. BMWNA told me mid January 3 weeks ago... |

The 8AT has the advantage of being able to directly downshift up to 6 gears at a time (8th directly to 2nd for an extreme example). The 6AT must downshift sequentially (my biggest complaint of ATs and why I drove nothing but manuals for years).
I'm sure the 8AT software is still in need of refinement but it is the superior transmission to the 6AT (and in some ways superior to a DDCT). Driving my E90 335i & my parents' F30 328i convinced me of this. Last edited by nospam; 01-16-2013 at 11:57 PM.. |

I am on a sideline awating for new transmision update too. If there is no update, the BMW will not have no deal with me. Currently my fully load 2008 X3 still in very good sharpe with only 40K miles, I can affort to wait more, may be x4 will be available by this summer? I need to reconsidering my plan?

I don't mind flicking through gears sequentially, its easy to keep in good rpms with the N55 and that transmission. |

Yes, I am taken in by ZF's 8AT propaganda but...
In my N54, the transmission was perfect as long as I was in DS-auto mode. I experienced surging and delays when driving in D and quickly downshifting 2-3 gears with the paddles which got me into some sticky situations trying to move from traffic into free-flowing lanes. I haven't experienced this with our 128i 6AT (I am not saying the GM 6AT is better, just different). The 8AT seems to be a great match for the N20/26 which is why I "downgraded" from a 335i to an x28i. I have no experience with the 8AT and the N55. My parents don't have paddles in their F30 and I haven't truly lived with the 8AT yet. I'll be picking my x28i M Sport up Friday so I'll be able to make a fairer comparison after break in.

i like both the 8 speed and at6, my x1 35i went in for sat radio upgrade and laoner was new 328 with 8 speed, i liked it but not enough to deter me from buying x1 with at6, i hared the start stop function, very jerky...

I do know that $120 paddle shifter option is no longer available on MY2004 without getting the M Sport package so I'm wondering what else could be changing that wasn't on this list... |

Yeah...looks like either a decently optioned 28xdrive (premium, lighting, heated front seats...maybe HK sound + BMW Assist) or a minimally optioned 35xdrive (heated front seats....maybe HK sound + BMW Assist). I thought about satellite radio, too, since it's so cheap (even though I don't listen to the radio). If it is completely no longer a standalone option and is package only, screw that.
