2014 X1's can be ordered as of today.
Dealers can as of this morning order 2014 X1's.
Looks like as far as options go, everything is mostly the same except there's a new concierge option and the paddle shifter option is reportedly gone, even under the m-sport features (Correction, it does appear to be there as the 7xa code, but the 2xa code is gone) it doesn't list paddle shifters -- so maybe it's now standard on the 35 but dealers don't have the dealer order books to know what's standard yet. Not sure about changes for the 28, as that's not what I was looking into. Last edited by edx1; 01-02-2013 at 01:54 PM.. |

I was wondering if a backup camera would be standard in the 2014 model. There was pending legislation to make it mandatory in all MY14 SUVs but never heard if it passed in time.

Yes, but dealer allocations don't go past week 5, so if you want a 2013 you better get the orderin SOON. Within a week or two dealers won't be able to change options on those allocations, if they have any.

Good to know. Thanks. I guess I'm stuck with a 2014, (which is going to be just fine). I can't take delivery until late March, or early April, which would mean an order end of January, early February.

Fwiw I think the incentives (holiday, test drive) can still be locked in today if an order placed but I'm pretty certain you have to take delivery of the car within 90 days so that would mean a 2013

The wording on the holiday cash excluded new MY2012 but didn't specifically exclude MY2014's, though the X1 I believe is the only MY2014 model in the dealer system ATM and I don't think very many dealers would have lucked out in seeing the X1 showing up today and had a customer already waiting and willing to sign as well today. /Maybe/ a couple people ordered a 2014 X1 today and had dealers say it was do-able but I can't imagine the number being high enough to make BMW re-write the fine print now.
There is some confusion as well with ED in the 90 day holiday cash delivery window, and whether you can realistically do an ED in less than 90 days to take advantage of it. I actually searched and couldn't find a definitive answer if the 90 day holiday cash lock window just has to be until the day you put your first payment down (A week before you fly over) or if you have to have the car back to the US. Or if it's more open and can still do the ED a month or so after the 90 day lock window is up. |

Dealers now either have their March 2014 X1 allocations or the X1 does not have to come out of a dealers allocation anymore. Either way, all ED and standard order 2014 X1's can now go through.

ie: I call up a dealer and say "order me this car please"? So, does the dealer say "sure, we have an allocation available in February, we'll get you a 2013. It will arrive here around March or April". or... "Sure, we don't have any allocations left until March, so we'll have to order a 2014 for you. It will arrive here around April or May". ? Thanks, |

Personally I am going for sooner vs later since it does not look like anything major has changed for the 35 and I don't want to wait until May |

Dealers I've heard have no 2013 allocations past week 5 (first week of February) and usually no modifications of the car can be made a few weeks before a cars production date starts, so after another week or two, if not already, a dealer won't be able to customize a 2013 X1 for you.
Dealers can now order a 2014 for a production date starting the first of March which means the first 2014's could be to the US as soon as the last week of April with most dealers getting their first sometime in May. Remember, it takes 6-10 weeks for any X1 to come on boat regardless of when you order. I think anyone who goes to order an X1 after the 20th of January (at the latest) will be told that BMW is only accepting orders for 2014's. If you go into a dealer the first week of February they'll almost certain say 'we can order your 2014 X1 and it will be here in 3-4 months' rather than the usual 2-3 month time frame.. |
