Opinions wanted on my option list
I'm looking for a replacment for my FX35 and have settled (I think) on a X1 Xdrive 28i. BMW's configurator frustrates me! I really like the ground effects of the Xline, it seems to make a difference in the overall look of the vehicle. I'm planning on the Cashmere Silver with the Oyster interior but the orange piping makes me go YUCK! Why in the world BMW?! It must be a German thing
I also much prefer the light Fineline wood and that's not available either, only the darker matt wood. I also don't like all the charcoal lower interior accents. The door only has like a 5-6inch swath of interior color on it. Am I obsessing here, does anyone have this combination that can tell me it looks fine after all? After reading other comments I guess I'll not order the Servotronic option. I'm going with the Ultimate package, Lighting Package, Cold Weather, Sport wheel with Paddle shifters, BMW apps, Satellite radio. Sound off, all opinions are respected |

Traditionalists (old folks) like me like black trim with colored accents more than the monotone approach. If you're looking for a more monotone approach than the Oyster, consider the beige leatherette, or a no-line with sand beige interior. The accent pieces on the seats are really minor, you'll likely not notice after the first week.

I looked at the Mline, i'm just worried about too jarring of a ride on our crappy roads. What's the ride like? Also, the Cashmere Silver is not available with the M Sport line. Like I said, the configurator drives me crazy
Besides, I prefer the front/rear bumper treatment and the silver molding under the doors. I've also seen a thigh adjustment on some seats online, I don't see that on the configurator either. Last edited by gvlbuckeye; 02-15-2013 at 03:52 PM.. |

I'd most certainly go all in with the bigger motor base line with the 323 wheels for that kind of X1 $, mpg diff will not be as huge as the EPA will lead one to believe. And you get xenons, fineline wood, roof, better brakes, way better soundtrack and a more proven (and potent) powertrain as standard kit. The N20 doesn't seem too bulletproof so far, 8sp also bit of question mark imm if I were looking at long term ownership. Priced it up with all your stuff for 46,3. I like straight black interior with the light wood- think it looks fantastic. It is annoying you can't get the light wood with the sport, but you can w/Msport. 2 reasons I oppose Msport in this car- overfat and squishy steering wheel and on busted up roads I don't want 19" run flats w/sport suspension. Its still not a sports car, you may as well roll along in some comfort.

Option config is a little different in Canada, but worked out perfectly for me.
Liked the XLine Package as it gave sub options of fineline wood matt trim, and style 320 rims. (love the silver kidney grills too) Didn't want the sunroof, so no premium package. The HK system is not available on the 28i, so ended up with the 35i, and the extra ponies is a nice bonus. All other options were individual and didn't require other packages to get them. I was worried for awhile that if I couldn't get a February production, (ordered Jan 28th) that I would be forced into March, and a 2014 year where option config would be different. Car went into production February 8th. Phew!

My wife and I saw the Cashmere yesterday and it is gorgeous!
I wish BMW would get rid of this line madness and go back to the way ordering used to be. Sport seat were really important to me. So that limited my ordering options. When I loaded up on the options we wanted with X or Sport line, we were so close to the price of the M Sport we went ahead with the M. Also, the M Sport steering wheel is so nice, we regretted not getting m Sport on our E82 and E90 vehicles. I didn't feel that the M Sport suspension was any harsher, just less body roll in the corners. The summer tires are also far superior to the all-seasons. ....just food for thought.

Edmunds.com test one without sport seats and hate it:
"This particular X1 is equipped with BMW's $1,900 "X Line" package (18-inch Y-Spoke wheels, wood trim, special leather) and the flat, featureless seats that come with it. We don't expect the X1's buckets to hold tight like an M car, but with the sauce on tap here, we'd appreciate something with either bolstering or long-range comfort. These seats offer neither." http://www.edmunds.com/bmw/x1/2013/road-test1.html Mine is sport seats and I like it; not sure about the base seats. |

OP, I feel your frustration with BMW's limited options.
I was deciding between XLine and MSport, and I decided with MSport because I like the sports seats and interior colors. I agree with the Edmunds review of the normal seats. The additional bolsters in sport seats held me in place better during turns, which is nice to have on a car that has noticeable (but managed) body roll. |

I'm thankful that I was able to get sports seats with the x-line (I'm in Canada).
Although I wasn't able to get the Harman/Kardon upgrade because that's not an option for the 28i, only the 35i (don't know if that restriction applies in the U.S. as well). The option limitations *are* very frustrating. It seems like they're completely arbitrary and invented just so that the local country marketing staff can justify their existence. |
