Finally, BMW X1 Coming to US, Debuts at 2012 NYIAS
At the Geneva Motorshow we learned that the X1 (in LCI facelift form) for the US market will be debuted at next month's NY International Auto Show.
It should be on sale in the US in early Fall as a xDrive28i model (with 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder N20 engine). The X1's introduction to the US market may be laying the path for a rumored X1 M35i, which would be the first M Performance Automobile for the North American market.

I think the X1 will beat the X3 and X5 as a volume seller after it finally gets a chance here in the USA!

Would still rather see a 3 or 5 door 1 series is the US ... but this is a step in the right direction! EDIT: Nevermind ... looks like they don't do a 35i X1 anywhere ... Last edited by D'Alex; 03-16-2012 at 03:35 PM.. |

The X1 shares much of its feature set with the E90 generation in the cockpit unless they do a big refresh. It is excellent.

Good luck with the squeaking brakes south of the border!

I love my X1. I think it's very under rated by some people.
I never gave the thing a second look until I was stuck at the dealer for 30mins while they were finishing up my 335. They offered me a test drive and the next day I was there signing the papers. Now every time I drop the car off they try to get me into another test drive. I've had mine for a year now and no squeaking brakes. I actually prefer it to the DD ability of my 335 Do yourself a favor and drive it. You won't regret it.

My only reservation lies in the fact that it's being introduced to the US as a years' old, E-generation model. Our 1-series coupé is making its way out in the next 18-24 months, but this X1 will be sticking around for a few more years here as the only EXX model in the BMWNA lineup.
I hope that detail doesn't show through. |

I am still dying to know more about the diesel model for the US. If they bring the rumored new ~215hp 25d model here, it will be a big winner. Even the existing ~200hp 23d model would be great. |

http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2012/01...-year-end.html If you look at the specs of the X1, it is very close in size to the best selling SUVs of all - the Ford Escape and Honda CRV. Now, I don't see the X1 making this top 20 list in the near future, of course. Even X3 and X5 are not on there, nor are any other luxury SUVs other than the Lexus RX. However, I can easily see the X1 outselling the X3 in the relatively near future, and I would be very surprised if it does not begin to outsell the Acura RDX, Mercedes GLK, Land Rover Evoque, Cadilac SRX, and others along those lines within a couple years of introduction. I would go so far as to say this will become the 3 series of SUVs by the time it hits its next generation. It will become *the* aspirational luxury SUV in the US. Just watch. |
