Bah, don't take it too seriously. He "forgot" to mention the x23d has the some torque as an M3, and in the end what matters the most is what *you* think of the car - not someone that can be picky about anything with less than 300cv and doesn't run on petrol.
I think the X1 is rather "fun" to drive, and although I admit it's "expensive" to have accessories that come as standard in much cheaper cars - that's something all BMWs have had since... ever? The only thing I agree with him is the engine sound... Indeed the 4cyl diesels I have tested and seen on the street sound a bit "cheap". I'm hoping the 23d sounds a little better. |

For a much better, less opinionated, and more knowledgable review, giving far more information try this one: - http://theage.drive.com.au/motor-new...0401-rfnp.html |

Clarkson is past his sell by date, he used to be witty now he is grasping for attention as he becomes ever more irrelevant.
Test Any cars you are interested in and think for yourself. I love my X1 2.3 Xdrive and my next car in a couple of years will be another! However I will say get the 2.3 X-drive auto, get leather, get standard 17" wheels and Clarksons criticisms disappear anyway. |

Clarkson has been banging this drum, "it's a pointless car" for a long time and in a number of different car reviews. I think he is over it and revealing a great amount of frustration and boredom unless he is driving an enormously powerful, fast car and in that case (considering where you can drive it) an absolutely pointless car.
Furthermore, Clarkson is tending towards the same formula for every review. He begins with an anecdote entirely unrelated and then draws a very long bow to connect this to what he wants to say about the car in question. |
