If you want to stop time, get a beater for DD/work. I stopped the 20k a year work miles by doing the same if you check my other posts (hence the stock, simple, solid 328i in my sig). My 2014 35i is now "frozen" at 63k miles (I put 30k miles on it last year alone with a bunch of extra trips).

I still have 3.75 years to go paying my car off, so I don't want a newish car payment when I'm at 130k+ miles. That = bad choice to me. Now I might be at 80k with a 7-8 yr old maintained car, and 180k miles on a car I maintained from 116k miles and was paid off from the start.
Plus, an *affordable* AWD tuned hatch with tremendous HP/TQ (what, 380/400 bhp/btq with the JB4 map 2, DP, and chargepipe) that still gets 18-27 MPG? I don't see that happening.

As to your second paragraph, not sure what car you have. Sorry for my ignorance. In five years my X1 will be 9 years old and have 105k miles based on current driving. Are you suggesting at that point I'll probably need to get rid of it?

Having a high car payment with high mileage like that is, IMHO, a very poor decision since you don't know what will happen after 100k miles, let alone pushing 150k. It may make it to 300k with minimal problems, or something expensive may break between the engine, turbo, transmission, AWD transfer case or differentials. I'm not saying the car is going to be problematic and you should get rid of it. I'm saying I don't want a high mileage car I'm still making new(ish) car payments on. Once it is paid off, as long as you are doing proper maintenance to the car it's a savings to keep it hopefully. For anyone wondering *why I would buy the car in the first place then*, I had a 50 miles/day instead of 75ish commute when I bought the car so car payment/miles on the car wasn't an issue.
