Just talked with my next door neighbor - he has a 2010 Honda CRV that is subject to the Takata recall. Honda is providing him with a rental until the repair is done.

My local BMW dealer will provide you with a loaner vehicle for those who are affected by the recall under one of these two circumstances. 1) They will take your car in and store it in their parking structure until your airbag replacement is complete, which could take up to months because of the lack of supply. 2) Your SA will take down the current mileage of your car, you will then be asked to sign a contract stating that you are obligated not to operate your vehicle until the day you bring in your car for recall.

I'll tell you that I can crash as many cars all day and replace them. However, we cannot replace a life. There is no reason to continue to drive my 2015 X1 until the recall is fixed. There is a recall and that is because there is a chance my airbag will be faulty. If it is, then there is a chance it will kill/seriously-injur either me or my wife. Then what, I call BMW, tell them I lost my wife, and they give me money? I don't think so. We will not drive this car until it is fixed.

I was offered a non BMW rental. I don't want to drive a Dodge Avenger around for the next year while my car roast in the Florida sun with bird dropping all over it.

Not pushy, persistent. Leverage works differently for each individual. If you can have them logically see your side and in the end agree with you, then you have reached your goal and everyone feels like they've won.
Pushy sounds like the opposite. Trying to push them away from your perspective. Make sense?

So the dealership that offered a rental, was that your local dealership or the one where you bought the vehicle? In my case they're different. Was the rental offered for a new car or a CPO?
Thank you! |

Pretty much.

It is my local dealership and where I bought the vehicle. I am not.

Remember, it's a combination of time and humidity ups and downs, exacerbated by high humidity areas. Most X1's are too new to be an issue. I live in a dry area, so I'm not worried, once the hysteria passed.

Just bought an X1 over the weekend from a Volvo Dealer that was trying to get rid of it. It's such an immaculate car inside and out, what a shame on me for not looking at this open recall before purchasing it... not sure why I didn't think that was necessary.
I am going to continue to drive it as I cannot be without a car but it's a little scary to think that a potentially non-lethal accident could be made lethal by the very thing that is supposed to provide protection Anyway, I'll be ready to perform the recall repairs when they are. |

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure that they were required by law to inform you of the recall before you purchased. I would go back to the dealership and raise a storm because that's a pretty big deal.

Is there some sort of compensation that I could potentially get or is it just a money back and I can use my money to buy something else? Thanks for the response. |
