Come on bro, if you get a 6 cyl Beemer 4WD to limit yourself to so many kilometers because otherwise it gets too expensive, perhaps you can't afford the car in the first place !

True, but that is not what I meant really. I meant that if you do a lot of km, you will have the inconvenience of having to fuel your car twice a week. Maybe that's not that much of an issue though, for someone who drives a lot anyway.

New results about 1.8i Sdrive
Runned 450km trip this weekend with no serious altitude variation (no mountains etc). Consumption was 8.4lt! Speed between 120 to 140. Thats a truly amazing result for petrol engine! |

The consumption story of BMW X1 xDrive 25i and 28i with 6zylinders is over!
BMW disrupted this engine! There is no new engine with the same name, but with turbo and only 4 zylinders. It is said, with remarkable lower gasoline consumption. I think, they sold a one year's flop! http://www.motorvision.de/artikel/bm...yern,6577.html |

Hmm Pepe, give it time, also, how are you calculating the 13.6l ?
Come to think of it, I assume you were in heavy traffic at 36km/h? In that case just about any car is going to have horrific consumption! Last edited by manicm; 03-06-2011 at 10:09 AM.. |

The car was saying that I can not believe, hope it is not true. Maybe because it is new? Or its still too high? There were some motorway, country road, villages, 120-80-60-40 (km/h limits). It looks scary. Nex time I'll go for a easy motorway ride and will see. Nobody had the same experience with the new car?

Try to do manual calculation, when filling up next time, take note of litres and see how many miles you do till empty. I don't think it's as bad as that.
Oh, and Red Devil indeed! |

Pepe, Manicm,
Mine has settled at around 40mpg (7.1 l/100km) with a combination of city 70% and motorway 30% driving. Oh, and I don't really hold back either. I have checked this now a number of times manually so am pretty certain it's accurate. I would say that all 2.0d XDrive autos should be around this mark.

It was a bit heavier for the first 500 miles or so. I did not get a accurate figure however as I was still running the car in. Also I forgot to zero the mpg figure on the computer which is separate from the miles figure.

Yes, the gas mileage will definitely improve as the engine is run-in. It might take several thousand miles, so don't worry too early. Enjoy the ride!

Oh stupid me, it seems I found the reason of the high consumption It is not high, just written in a different way, not the one I got used to.
The comp said: 13,6 KM/L (!), which does not mean it is 13,6l/100km but means 7,3l/100 km! (I think) So it is not bad at all |

I just completed a 1040km round trip - mostly highway, about 200kms of that buzzing around town (light traffic). Averaged 7.5l/100 Pretty pleased. Highway driving was down with cruise control on for a lot of it set at just over 110km/h, did a fair amount of overtaking too.

Was driving a test sDrive 18d today. It had 8.5 l/100 km on avg. Not with just my driving. For a test car that gets driven harder then normal, it's okey.

I'm getting 17.2 l/100km and I'm still running in.
This is purely city driving. Seems like I'm not getting as good a mileage as some of you. Any advice? Mine's a sDrive 18i (petrol). |

Seriously, it's very difficult to provide any advice without seeing your driving style. 17L does sound indeed very excessive even for a 18i petrol, but if you floor the pedal at every traffic light or more often than necessary, it's very possible. Keep the revving below 3000 rpm between gears, or better, follow the gear indicator. These modern fuel injected engines do not need constant pressure on the gas pedal. Release when you are on flat terrain or downhill. I used to drive an MPI fuel injected 4.6L V8 Ford Crown Victoria. Depending on my driving style, I could manage on the same city drive 12L/100 or... 21L/100 !

I have the 1.8sdrive petrol and my consumption is 8.4 to 9.0 for combined and 10-11 max for urban.
Try to change gears very often (at around 2000rpm) and drive like you have an egg between your foot and speed pedal. |
