Touchup on top of PPF?

Hi everyone,

So I decided to put on PPF into the full hood and front bumper, about 7000km since it was color corrected and buffed out.

I noticed that there's a small 2mm chip that I didn't touch up, and now it's under the PPF. It's the lower part of the bumper, can see it unless you're pretty close. It's the plastic part so I'm not really worried about rust.

Is it ok if I just use a brush and dab on a bit of touchup paint onto the PPF? Is that going to eat through the PPF? I could just leave it but sometimes is bothers me when I see that spot.

I used the touchup Rx kit with the touchup paint and pink leveler. I guess I should not use any leveler because I think it must be some acetone based solvent. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

You can use touch-up paint on PPF, but it won't last. But if it bugs you that much, by all means. And yes, no staged touch-up paint, just single stage.

Touch up paint won't hurt PPF so feel free to try. However I don't think it will look good. You won't be filling in the paint chip but rather dabbing paint on top of the PPF which will create a small mound and drawing attention to it. Ideally you would've applied touch up before PPF. Might just be something you have to live with

I wouldn't touch it as I don't think it will look ok. If you hate the way it appears now, this might be even worse!

But will be easy to remove if that is the case!

I would add some touch-up paint, then put another small piece of PPF on top of it to protect the touch-up.

I'd pull the PPF and touch it up.

No way would that look acceptable.

Remove PPF then touch-up. It will still be noticeable but you might be able to live with it.

LOL. To this day, I have yet to see a single PPF job that looked acceptable, period.

I hate to say it and please don't take it personally but in my opinion you are in the minority.

I'll bite.

What is "unacceptable" about well installed PPF?

I've seen tons of good PPF installs out of TintWorld Xpel certified installers some who have been doing wraps 20+ years.

My BMW's you cannot see the film and they don't peel up either.

My last 2 cars were flawless once installed on brand new cars.

It protected paint and minor fender bumps in parking lots ect

I've always found PPFs to look not great. It reduces the gloss and depth of the paint. It just isn't as clear as nothing.

Personally, with the prices people are paying for PPF installs, I'd rather do touch ups .myself and eventually just get a respray on panels that are beyond touch up if that happens.
