No love for X1 35i M-Sport????
Going down the rabbit hole for my e93 335i ‘11 and stumbled upon the ‘15 35i M-Sport. Zero love and very few reviews here in the states. I understand the inline 6 turbo was a North America edition.
I am in love with my ‘11 e92. Still going strong at 76k (easy) miles and have now begun to add some mods to it. Yeah it took me a bit. Cobb tune and a down pipe. Looking towards a DP and PE exhaust mod. I began look at a small used suv’s that would give me “some” of the driving experience with more ground clearance for my aging parents but retain some good looks. (Not too tall). x3/4 m40i= great in your face power but price is not where I want to be. I’m not super crazy about the aesthetic visual proportions of either. The ratios seems off. Too much glass on top. Personal preference. (Still haven’t driven the last version of the 35i) x5= too big and heavy for my needs/wants. In addition, I’d need the big motor. And that opens a whole new can of worms in the long run. Love the looks though. x2 35i= great looks and size. However the move to a turbo 4 has left me wanting. Yes it is tuned to run. But it needs a few beats to think about it and I’m not keen on a motor wound so tightly to get results. The move to a FWD biased drive train wasn’t thrilling either. I guess I’m wondering about the X1 35i M-Sport. Very few out there. I now know it’s based on my chassis and not extremely successful. Any insight/comparisons? Side note: I all models must have the M-Sport package. |

I'm thrilled with my 2015 X1 xDrive35i M-Sport! It handles well, very responsive to throttle and benefits from lots of the tuning options available for the 135i & 335i. In my case I would have preferred a 3-series wagon if it was available with a six cylinder engine - I didn't want an N20 turbo four. I've done some light tuning (Burger N55 Stage 1, MHD Android App, Alpina Transmission Flash, etc.) which make driving more fun. I also found some smoother riding Michelin MOE run-flat tires that I prefer to the stiffer BMW "star" Pirelli tires mounted on the car when I purchased it as BMW CPO.
My car is Valencia Orange - it wouldn't have been my first choice but it's grown on me over time. And I almost never see another look-a-like car - so that brings some excitement when I do. There are a couple of annoying aspects to the M-Sport package - you lose the heated steering wheel and the "aero" body kit causes the rocker panels to stick out below the door somewhat. In inclement weather this make it easy to get your pants muddy or wet when entering & exiting the car - especially for shorter people. Last edited by Scratchboat; 05-18-2020 at 06:00 PM.. |

Maybe to you, but I can't stand driving our Pilot now if it's cold outside. Of course this is very much a first world problem

I personally would rather have the thicker Msport wheel over the thinner heated one. Even when it is below freezing out the car doesn't take long to heat up. There was a good point about the side skirt protruding from the body of the car. I have noticed a "clean spot" when the car is dirty. It's from my pants rubbing the dirt off of it. If that is a deal breaker though then you should look at what about the Msport package you like. For me it was also a must.
I wanted to replace the 335i with the closest thing I could. Matching specs and looks.

How do you feel they compare? If I had it my way the coupe would stay in the garage like a classic, and DD the X1. I thought about a Crosstrek for a winter car/DD. But my better half said I’d get board with it fast.

I hear you on the color. The one I’m eyeballing is orange also. It looks great on the m2. I’d have to see it in person. My e92 is platinum gold. Never see those. God I love that color. |

If you're okay with the depreciation and maintenance then the X1 is obviously the better choice. Quote:

I think M Sport 35i are great value. Around here, the few that are on the used market do not garner any more money than non-MSport variants. Mileage seems to be the primary dictator of used prices for the X1.
It's the nearest fast wagon that's still based on the excellent e9x platform. |

Great safe fun car for students also... I've had the plastic charge pipe crack (only problem had with the car) that was about $800 to fix... Wished I had put in the aluminum one but was traveling at the time and daughter needed the car back... Not very many out there because BMW was really trying to upsell the 2.8 turbos and the N55 I6 was phasing out... |

It sounds like you may have modded this a handful of years ago. Both the JB4 and Alpina transmission flash have better alternatives available now. Only posting to make sure if someone comes across this thread that they should look into MHD for tuning and XHP for transmission flashing.

They do still work. I have used a bunch of different tunes over the past 6 1/2 years of being with the n55 platform.

I Was finally able to test the 15 35i m sport transferred to my CarMax location.
Results: -NO surprises thanks to you fine forum members. -The V. orange popped and was fantastic to look at. I could see myself with that color. -A hint of a past leak when I peaked under the car. But the engine bay did not show evidence of recent HG oil leaks. The bay was unaltered. -mechanically sound with a strong n55 and transmission. -electronics all functional. -Age related, and owner caused, cosmetic blemishes. Some not so happy about. Others are the cost of purchasing a used car. Sadly.... it's a hard pass! the smell of cigarette smoke is a non starter. I'm very disappointed with CM for not disclosing that prior to shipping. In the end, it was an easy decision to walk away. Save some money. Then sit and wait.

Yeah. Hit or miss like any dealer. After the utter disappointment from this weekend, my plan is to sit and wait. But these aren't get any younger and given the low numbers sold in the states.... "outlook not so good"
I must say, The orange was nice.

my advice..
car gurus, and search all of the US. whatever the stealership is asking, start at 25% below that.. do all the work over email and get a "buyers order" theres absolutely NO reason to spend any time in a dealership, other than 1 hour to sign and pick up your car. and Car Max is the worst.. their "no haggle" price is a joke. |

Funny that other people comment on the annoying rocker panel. It's literally the only thing I don't like about my X1. Everything else is fantastic though. I like it better than my old 2011 135i.
