Very close to buying our X1 !!
Hi guys, new to the forum! This is a FANTASTIC forum (from what I can tell) and I wanted to thank you all for all this wonderful information to search and read through!
That said, we are in LOVE with the X1. My wife and I have been saving and we are now ready to buy a pre-owned X1 in the Oregon/Washington area. We've test driven and we know we definitely want the xDrive 35i. My wife commutes from Bend to Portland (over the mountain passes) where we have snow and ice much of the year. She's been driving a tired old 2001 Audi A4 Quattro which has been a fine little car, but it's getting long in the tooth. So, we are trying to narrow our decision.. I wanted to know from you experts if we should lean strongly between the 2013, 2014 or (eep) 2015 model years? Is there anything really different between them? We are seeing some X1's that have strange Options omissions that otherwise are low mileage, great looking (e.g. one has Technology, M Sports, Cold Weather Package but DOESN'T have Premium, or Driver's Assistance!). It feels strange to me to buy a vehicle of this quality level and not have a dimming mirror, or back up camera. I feel like I can live without these features, but I worry it could bite me on the resale if we decide to sell the car down the road..? Here are two I am looking at now: This black one is in fantastic condition, low miles, price is right.. but missing several options: http://www.uniquelyeuropeanauto.com/...e4b4f3416bd02/ This orange one.. Mmmmm love the orange! Has all the options, but it's WAAAY up in Seattle, which is a bit of a pain and obviously the price is higher. http://www.bmwseattle.com/certified/...1f60dde35a.htm Anyway, thank you again for this fantastic resource, we hope to be PROUD X1 owners soon!!! |

Adjustable lumbar support is a must-have for me, but otherwise they both look pretty good.
If you go for the one in Seattle, I would definitely negotiate a price via email before making the trip. I would expect you to at least get it down at least $2000 or so, especially if you play them against the lower-priced one that's closer and more convenient. Just be upfront and say you'll make the drive if they make you a deal. |

First off, be wary of buying from a non-BMW dealership. I think the fact it was sold to them will break the chain of "ownership" that allows for CPO warranty. Sales to a private party will not break the chain. The factory warranty is 4 years/50k, whichever is first from the in service date, so possibly only two years or less left on the 2014, one year on the 2013.
I just changed to the X1 from a 1998 M3 sedan and I find Park Distance Control and the rear camera to be extremely helpful. I believe those features (or just rear view cam?) will also be required by law on new cars starting in the next couple years. Not having the camera at that point may hurt resale. That orange one is very similar to the one I just bought (M pkg, ultimate, 19s, adaptive xenons), although I have a bit more miles and another year (2013 @ 35k). Different market, but yeah, try for $2k off. Orange may also be difficult to resell? I dunno (I like it). Used 6-cylinder with M pkg were getting difficult to find... Only minor changes between the years. The 2015 MY has a slight lower lip added to the front of non M-Sport models. The rear hatch has an aluminum(?) sill plate, and the interior trim piece on the passenger side has a contrasting strip at the bottom. The gauge cluster is wrapped in soft touch vinyl, and may have contrasting stitching depending on model line.
I'd also be weary about buying from a used only dealer. I'd try to stick with something from the dealer or from a private sale. Do your homework. There's a guide in the sticky section detailing all the changes between model years.

The problem i have is that once you start adding any options to an X1, and I mean any, it gets ridiculously expensive.
A well optioned X1 is within a few grand of an Audi A4 Allroad, and I'd take the Allroad every day of the week. |

Well, that took a turn...
I will add, the Audi only comes with a 4 cyl motor. It's basically a much heavier AWD GTI. Last edited by zeevette; 09-15-2015 at 01:59 PM.. |

Look at the attachment below. It is a 2.8 fully loaded not a 3.5 and the cost is $51.752 + GST My 2012 was $54.000 brand new but since 2013 (I think) they do not offer Harman Kardon in the 2.8 anymore, nor headlamp washers, and some other stuff. Anyway, I still believe that the X1 is one of the "bang for the buck" cars, you get a very nice package for the money. (This model with biased RWD true X-drive not the new one). Audi is not in my books, and I will never give up an X1 for an A4 Allroad. No way Jose! |

The point I'm trying to make however is it all comes down to what kind of car you want. I've always preferred a smaller but fast car and now that my kids are still young but out of the stroller and tons of crap to go anywhere phase an X1 was perfect for me. Fits the whole family without issue plus is fast as hell when I have the urge to boot it. The all road would be a great car no doubt, but the engine would not come close to offer the fun that the 35i does. All depends what your after. |

Pretty much equally specced, so the mid tier Allroad and a basically loaded X1, both with the 2T the price is within $1K as per MRSP. With the big banger in the X1 it is considerably more expensive than the Allroad.
The X1 would handle better but that's about it. 2T for 2T the Allroad looks better, the interior shits all over the X1, it's more practical and it's not about to be replaced in it's model line up. BMW are a bit tricky price wise, they offer a lower entry point than other luxury marques but to equally spec them the price explodes. Hence we drive a stripped out X1. |

I got my 35i CPO with 6k miles, for just over $30k, with premium, cold weather, and lighting pkg. I wouldn't even consider a new one. It's fast, fun, and comfy enough. Audi will have a way better interior, and much better resale value. Not sporty at all, IMO.

First, "de gustibus non disputandum", for me, Audi it is not nicer than my X1. Secondly, as exterior look, X1 it is indeed one polarizing vehicle, and that I like because it is unique. Interior wise, it's ok, wait until they will make it like the A3 with those vents and we will puke together. In regards with the Audi exterior, I do have a problem similar with Porsche: they look so alike that makes me puke. Like, no imagination. But that is me, right? In terms of practicability, I see theX1 more practilacl from my point of view; shorter, nimble, fast and more powerful, better handling. Not the last, reliability wise, BMW is better. |

I like the shape of the X1 because it's unconventional and different than most vehicles on the road. the analogy is like when BMW first introduced the X6. Everyone said it was ugly. some still do, but I like the shape/design. Unique stance that looks very nice to me. Akin to the X1 being unique.
