Front control arms do not. The rear is where you can swap parts, as prematureapex said. It is the same as the 335i xdrive cars.
Next week my car is going in for the custom oil cooler, and then watkins glen in three weeks! Quote:

Had a great time out at Watkins Glen last weekend. Watkins is a truly amazing track, and I can't wait to be back out there. Was my first time at the track, but car was having issues misfiring and pulling boost. Was really down on power, turned out to be plugs but I didn't figure it out until after I got home, but wound up missing a few sessions due to that and rain. Even so I still hit 2:23 with an instructor in the car and traffic. I figure solo with full power and pushing harder the car should be good for around 2:13-2:14. Here is a video from one of the runs. PCA are great people but really wish they would be less conservative with run groups...
A fun couple laps of the rain session...was a bit scary on bald Nitto Nt01 rcomps. Car got sideways really easy. Last edited by paradoxical3; 06-27-2015 at 09:04 PM.. |

Absolutely brutal on the lack of points in that rain session. If I was your instructor, I'd have you all over their mirrors/bumpers. Their instructors should have been paying more attention as well.
If you ever run with RTR or Schattenbaum at the Glen (or come down to NJMP or Summit), let me, know...love to come out and join you. Good idea taking an instructor your first time at Watkins. As you know, it's an awesome, fast place. But it can catch you out...and it's good to have a voice of reason sitting next to you when you're getting to know your way around. You get around well in most of the videos I've seen. With a car as "easy" to drive as a pushy X1, good decision making and a constant eye in your mirrors, you should have no trouble running in white (or whatever the first solo group is)...and I bet you have the pace for black...but more mileage is good before venturing up. Is the PCA chapter you run with preventing you some signing up before getting written permission? Last edited by PrematureApex; 06-28-2015 at 01:09 PM.. |

When we actually got to Watkins, it wound up being the same - even with my first time at the track in the Blue group, I was the fastest car by good margin and didn't have to give a point by over the course of all three days. I attribute a lot of this to the X1 being really easy to drive - plus I was familiar with the track layout from iracing. My instructor soloed me after the first day but I was still stuck in blue, and with the issues the car was having plus the rain I only got out for one or two solo runs. I am used to running with groups like 10/10ths motorsports, where intermediate is extremely fast and has passing freedom even in corners. PCA events are just a bit of adjustment - I figure I need to pay my dues in the lower run groups until they clear me for red/black. Seems I get moved up about one group per event, but that they are really reluctant to jump drivers more than one group even if lap times, awareness, and instructor approval are all there. |

Great news and great videos, thank you for sharing!
About the missfires, how did you identify it was the plugs? Did you have specific error codes? Thank you

On these cars stutters and hesitations are usually either plugs or coils, and plugs are a cheap and easy fix to try. |

The PCA is usually very welcoming to anyone on open track event days and that can bring out some nut jobs. With the values of even pedestrian Porsche's sky rocketing, it becomes even more important to strongly control and evaluate new participants. I can relate one incident that happened here at Pacific Raceways (Seattle International Raceway at the time) about 20 years ago. I was running my 72 914-6 (created not original) with a 3.4 stroker, Webers, etc etc. About 340 hp and just under 1900 lbs. I am a mid level driver out for a good time. Waving by faster guys, you know... Along comes a supercharged Corvette. Running hard, I wave him by, he went getting all squirrely but not terrible. Well, after that it became a major priority for him to get by a full done 930. That thing was amazing. 730hp Promotive on 105, AP racing brakes with 14" rotors and on and on. Just done and first time on the track. Well, after the pass and running down the straight I caught them both in the chicane and was watching. Finally the Corvette driver tried to do a no wave pass right after the apex on 8 and proceeded to punt the 930 right into the trailing edge of the wall. Craziest thing I ever saw on the track. The 930 hit the wall at about 75mph accelerating hard out of the hairpin for the slight turn at 9 onto the straight. Corvette just tried to cut in and hit the outside corner of the 930. The Corvette had some damage but didn't spin out, but the 930 was wiped. 30k worth of engine destroyed. So, long story short, that is why the PCA is super careful of newcomers they don't know. I wish I had a video of it... |

Two things.
A) Great thread, I always wanted to turn a 3.5 X1 into a track monster, but ended up doing it to an F80. Lovely car, glad to see you pursuing your driving passion and not caring what others think. I'm sure there's plenty of snotty people who think "Who brings an X1 to the track?", only to end up being passed by you. Love it! B) In regards to the post above me, not to say that it is everyone, but in general the most aggressive/worst drivers are always driving a Corvette.

Thanks for the kind words. I have been having handling issues with the car over the last several events and finally tracked it down - my front control arm bushings are destroyed. I ordered new urethane track bushings from Strongflex over a week ago, and if they ever decide to ship them they will be installed on Thursday. These stock bushings are total pieces of junk and I recommend they be the first thing you change if you drive your car hard.
I also installed the M3 strut tower brace. I went with the 335i Xdrive kit assembled by HPA Autosport, and it fits with slight modification. The X1 has different part numbers than the 335i for the strut tower brace, and it mostly has to do with the angle. The M3 strut tower brace attaches crooked and with the right side angled too low on the X1 - you need to shim the V brace from the M3 with washers or a piece of metal to correct the angle. You will need to shim both sides to add clearance to remove the engine cover in the future. Finally, I figured out some significant coding changes that will increase performance on track. E84_FLR - Engine power Reduction - nicht_aktiv (this prevents the ECU from pulling power on the track because it is stupid and thinks your brakes are overheating) E84_AX_REF_Diff_Lock - nicht_aktiv (this disables the stupid e-diff since I have a mechanical LSD) E84_FDB (Dynamic Performance Control) - I will disable this next track day to see how I like it I also will experiment with coding these out - from my research, these values (which are all aktiv in the X1) will reduce braking performance and consistency on track. E84_HBA - Hydraulic Brake Assist E84_EVB - Brake Standby (reduce brake delay by lightly applying the brakes for when they might be required) E84_HPS - Brake Fading Compensation (maintains pedal feel by gradually increasing braking pressure) E84_Maximum Brake Support On Sept. 19, 20, and 21st I will be at Mid Ohio with PCA for an advanced-only HPDE. I anticipate being one of the slower cars in my run group (which includes cup cars, GTRs, 991 GT3s, etc) which should be a lot of fun. I will try these changes and report back. |

He'll chime in, but I'm pretty sure he has a back-end ECU flash after moving off the stock turbo, with the JB4 overtop.

I am going to flash the PPK tomorrow since it targets slightly lower timing, which I think will help. |

There are back end flashes for E series N55s with upgraded turbos, including Pure. http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24788 My buddy has a BEF on his '11 135 Pure St. 2. More importantly, can you post a the details regarding the PPK flash when you're done?! Thanks!

paradoxical3 Saw a Z4 35i w/ BR-P (ECU Flash) previously JB4. And the ECU Flash are seeing great advantage over piggybacks for reasons you may know already
I know you're running flex fuel and that is also seen lately ECU Flash + JB4 for meth or flex fuel. Although, I don't want to see more e85 issues =\ on your car

Quite the difference between this and the JB4. It's a rocket now. Drives so much smoother and maintains power till redline. We are going to dyno soon and increase ignition timing and see what we can get out of my FBO 35i.
