I find it odd that BMW says, "Yeah, you're brakes are likely enough to fail where we need to do a recall, but go ahead and keep driving the car for the next 3+ months until we can get around to fixing yours, good luck!"

Maybe I'm not understanding this right but... Can't you just move over to the shoulder if you get into a limp mode while getting onto the highway? You have enough momentum to move to the right without disturbing following cars. I've never experienced limp more so I'm just trying to understand how limp mode can be dangerous.

Question here...
I'm going to pick up my new X1 one week later. The production starts around Sep 5th. Is this car in the recall list? It is not produced in Aug, but I think the engine might be assembled in Aug? |

Mine was Euro Delivery built May 23, 2013 so it's most likely in the recall. They indicate what makes sense; whatever car they have access to will be fixed before delivered, so your car shouldn't be in the recall. Sure it's a necessary fix because of the what ifs, but it hasn't happened many times or nobody could drive them. |

If I understand it correctly, they don't have a fix. If that's true, I would expect all N20/N26's to be affected unless a production change was made. (But if a change was made, why wouldn't they have a fix for cars already on the road?) An undelivered car won't be "recalled" because it hasn't been registered yet, but it will probably be included in the "stop sale" and will be held until the fix is implemented. You might have some leverage getting a loaner given the situation. Frankly, I'm shocked BMW isn't requesting current owners park their cars. I assume it's because they can't provide loaners for everybody, but it sure seems like a huge liability risk to me. I log a lot of miles, and with heavy travel planned in the upcoming weeks, I'm more than a little uneasy about the situation.

It's a problem of loosing vacuum boost, which means the car brakes still work, but you'll have to stand harder on them.
These cars already slow down more on decel than any car I've seen. At least it's not a electric ps problem where it turns suddenly on it's own like has happened to a few different makes. |

I am reviving this long dormant thread as I am curious to know who finally received a notice. We did not and talking to our local BMW dealer there is nothing on the vehicle. So while our car was built during the affected dates we have no notice. And to date have not had an issue.

I just bought a 2013 X1 so this is the first I've heard of this. Guess it's time to stop by the dealer.
I do love some quality time with my Germany BMW dealer...

I have a 2013 and had the work done several months ago. I had called the dealer in December and they said they had not received parts and they would call when they receive them. Fast forward to late Feb and I call the dealer and they say oh yea were working those now. There is still a recall and unless you contact them they have this recall screwed up. My X1 was built in July 2012 and is a 2013 model.
