Midnight Blue is my favorite BMW color. You have to see it in person. It's a true blue, not purplish, or a look at me blue, it's just right. Think Three Little Bears.
It's not the aqua blue that the BMW website makes it appear like. I wish they made it for the M-Line. |

What people considered blue a century ago is what we call azure now. There's also a shift towards considering orange to be yellow. Yellow light and yellow cab? No, the traffic light is amber and the cab is orange like an orange, not yellow like a lemon. That said, I looked at (and drove) a midnight blue model at the dealer, but found the color shifting too distracting. Depending on the light, it changed color between teal and dark blue. I prefer the Le Mans and Deep Sea blues because they're just blue, no shifts. So my observations clearly differ from yours, and that's okay Last edited by Grovsnus; 10-21-2012 at 11:53 PM.. |

Color preference may be the most subjective topic in this forum. It's analagous to discussing music- people have their opinions on what they like.
I do think it's important to see the car in person before investing $45,000 in a new purchase. Pics on the internet usually aren't accurate. |

Ok, I see it now. The swatch looked green on my monitor so I didn't even check it. I expected it to be deep navy like the old Orient Blue.

I took a chance & ordered midnight blue without having seen it in person. I've been very happy with the color! As many have said, it's impossible to photograph.
It does change color depending on the lighting, but it's subtle & not a cheap gimmick -- I'd say it's more like a hint of teal, and not full-on teal, in bright light. A lot of the time it just looks like a rich, dark blue. By comparison I found the deep sea blue a little too bright and a little too plain. |
