Anyhow, translation for US readers: City: 38.6 mpg Highway: 49.0 mpg Combined: 42.8 mpg ... and for non-metric UK readers: Urban: 46.3 mpg Extra-urban: 58.9 mpg Combined: 51.4 mpg Given that the tolls and duties in Norway means that you pay more than I paid for my 35i M-Sport over here, and gas is twice as much too, surely. |

But yeah, it would be nice to have a diesel X1 for the daily commutes, and a snappy petrol one for longer drives. I wish BMW USA would sell more diesels. |

Nice set up. I sure wish we could get the diesel over here in US. I would order one today if possible. Instead I wait and read about all the people not satisfied with the gas mileage in the current model offered.

As for EPA estimates: If you buy a sporty car, it's likely because you're going to drive sporty too. If you buy a car with more room than a coupe or sedan, it's likely because you're going to use some of that room. EPA estimates aren't for either situation. Drive it sedately on flat terrain without passengers or cargo, and it will give you the mileage. But if you bought it for that, more fool you. There are so many cars better suited for that kind of driving. Some even from BMW. But yes, it would be nice to get diesels here in the US too. Educating people that diesel no longer means foul-smelling soot-spewing machines is the stumbling block, because if they aren't going to sell, BMW sensibly enough won't sell them either. By the time enough Americans realize that diesel isn't what they thought, the day of liquid fossil fuels might be over anyhow. |

My TDI Jetta is rated 31/41 mpg and I get 39mpg tracked on fuelly.com. My local VW dealer can't keep the diesels in stock. Too bad BMW will wait until the market is saturated before they begin to compete.
When I feel like driving sporty I either take my SLK55 AMG or my wife's 135i vert. I don't care about mileage when I am driving either of those cars. In fact I think they both average around 20 mpg for me. The X1 would be for hwy commuting and hauling. The things I haul don't fit in a sedan trunk so I need either a small SUV or a wagon. I was just surprised when I started researching mileage posts here to see how far off the numbers are and how unhappy many drivers are. I am starting to see more positive posts so that is good to see. |
