Does bitrate matter in a car? Yes, perhaps more than in a silent environment, because what suffers the most with a low bitrate is high pitched sound like high-hats or walking treble. You can compensate for the bass being drowned out by car noises, but not for broken treble. If you pump it up, it will just sound more broken. |

@Grovsnus - I would love to do that but all my music is on i tunes and you cant load i tunes to the HD through the USB socket in the glove compartment, which is strange as of course i tunes plays fine through Blue Tooth and the USB socket in the front center socket. I guess I need to change the format and dont know how to do that..

@ formula - Yep agree with what you say, lucky for me 90% of my collection was on CD's which is why I loaded them onto the car's HD but like I say you dont get cover art that way, so I plug the i phone in via the white cable for long journeys. Works ok just a small phaff that I would not need to do if I could load onto the HD with cover art, there must be a way to change the format of i tunes into MP3, but not sure if it's worth the effort...knowing my computer skills I would wipe it all...

nospam - Thanks for advise, cant find AAC files but can convert each tune 1 x 1 into AAC version, which duplicates song in main library, you cant see the difference but have each song twice, taking double the space. Any idea how to make all ACC and save direct to stick ?

@ Dandaman - She is Space Grey and Tires are black, just wet from wash in photo's, winter wheels a waste of money so far in NW Europe, but time will if are worth it or go on sale. I remember when i tunes had that duplicate options, cant find it in this latest edition and would not know if deleting ACC version or i tunes (MP4 version)
@ Nospam - done that and this what I see... |

We need boats in the UK not winter tires. We have not had a dry day in months, may trade the X1 in for an Arc...Hope I get some snow back in Holland next week..
Happy New year BMW X1 people....Wishing you all a safe and healthy 2013 |

One year old today, I still enjoy driving this car, still smile when I look at it and would buy it again with out hesitation...11k on the clock now and no issues what so ever.
I hope you all enjoy yours as much |

So far it looks like another mild winter again in the UK. I've been wanting to pick up a set of 17" winter wheels but as I'm down in the South West of the country at the moment and not driving many miles at present I'll probably not bother this year again.
One of the many reasons I bought an X1 was because I was fed up with getting stuck/worried during winter driving high performance RWD's. I used winter tyres on my last car and they were great but still stressful driving on snow with 340bhp under the right foot (Z4 M Coupe). I think the X1 would be unstoppable, as long as there's the ground clearance . Still enjoying mine after 1 year 3 months. I will probably just keep this now as my daily driver until it one days expires. Can't ask for anything more really from a daily car. 4WD for winter, decent performance and economy and fairly cheap torun. |

Got my X1 for the very same reason, loved the 3 series but hated it in the snow we had over the last few years, so when the X1 came out, just had to go for the AWB version, winter tyres just make it complete for the snow, so as the song says. 'let it snow let it snow let it snow"
Saves the summer tyres 4 months of wear each year so they will live longer.. |
