The turbocharger heat is being dissipated thru the intercooler. The engine need cooling too, why don't we need a radiator for?? I forgot to mention that there's also oil that keeps the turbo smooth. So it will not cease under heavy load usage (like track racing) |

Not to mention the turbo and the exhaust run out of the engine on the other side..........
Tech was making sh*t up....because he new there was no good answer aside from BMW being to frugal to engineer proper rubber gasketed block offs. |

BMW will need to bond a new sheet metal piece to the opening with proper corrosion inhibiting compound and surface finishing in order to rectify this flaw. Of course they won't claim it, as this is labour intensive job... but how many km/miles do we cover for corrosion penetration? 6 years? unlimited miles? |

The edges are painted and sealed, my concerns are more around debris and mess than a belief that this will corrode. |

The Deep Sea Blue is really beautiful. That's the first 'live' one in that color that I've seen on the road. Kinda makes we wish we went for that colour over our black on black choice (the D. S. Blue was a close second and we waffled a lot before deciding). You made a nice choice D.C.!

Further note on the brakes - had the front pads replaced yesterday with the new style pads (checked the part numbers and they were definitely the new ones). Had the X1 out first thing this morning - it's squeaking worse than the old ones!!! Once they warmed up they were fine, but until then, it didn't feel at all like I was driving the "Ultimate Driving Machine"! It felt more like I was driving a 15 year old Ford... Hope they can figure out something else - cause this just won't work...

The tech left a card on the shifter that said to avoid violent braking for the first 125 miles or 200K. Card printed in German, English and French.

It's interesting - it just seems to depend on what service tech you end up getting - I was given no instructions at all about driving with the new pads. We have gone a bit more than 100 kms since having them installed Wednesday, so perhaps I will try to 'bed' the brakes today and see if it makes a difference. Thanks for the tips guys!

Sigh. Heard a squeak this morning. Will abuse them this afternoon like Canadian e! suggests.

Yes, my brakes squeal too. Took it to Bavaria BMW and they found PUMA 49555397-01 Related ( whatever that means ). Replaced front brakes pads. So far , not a squeal but we'll see. I do notice some brake dust now and none from before.
There are also two recalls : 1. Repair turbocharger vacuum line 2. E84 N20 Program control units (EGS data status ) |

Had the front brakes replaced last week at Crowfoot BMW Gallery in Calgary. They told me they are the "updated" pads. Initially they were squeaking a bit in the cold but haven't heard them since the first day. I also noticed a small amount of break dust so maybe these new pads are a bit softer.
No instructions were given on how to, or not to, drive them. Hopefully this lasts. |

By the way, he did say that the repeated aggressive stops to 'set' the pads (which was suggested in the earlier post) may not be the best thing to do, as it might cause some burn marks to appear on parts of the pads (this would only be in situations with multiple aggressive stops performed in minutes). |
