Hi Guys/Gals,

Has any of you experienced this kind of clicking noise from the rear?
Youtube Link:

it seems to be from the passenger side and it becomes more prominent when I turn left (so putting weight on the passenger rear)...What do you think is causing it? Any thoughts on tests I could do to figure it out?

2015 BMW 528i F10 (Base)

Thank you so much every one

sounds like an incorrect, too long, lug bolt tapping against the emergency brake hardware inside the hub.

sometimes happens when you get new wheel and wheel hardware.

if it has just starting occurring with no new changes to car I don't know.

thank you for your feedback. I actually changed the wheel bearing there recently.
any suggestions for making the noise go away or fix it properly?
Best,

Best,
You need to deconstruct down to the wheel bearing. Not sure but are you supposed to use a dial gauge to confirm the bearing is seated ?

You could find you forgot to tighten a caliper bolt properly, or whatever.

But definitely remove the wheel inspect and if you are able to lift the rear safety with the transmission in neutral rotate the wheel and listen.

Obviously when up a garage lift this would probably be a quick diagnosis.

I also found these two guys whose noise sounds super similar. Looks like their issue went away after they thoroughly cleaned the mating surfaces of wheel inside and rotor.

I had this issue on my 440i when i switched wheels from the stock wheels to 437m. Someone above mentioned it, but it was because I was still using the extended lugs that I had been using for the spacers with the stock wheels. Was also on the passenger side, so very likely could be interference with the e brake hardware as mentioned above. Once I went back to regular lugs the noise was gone.

While I was looking into it, it does seem that it can also be due to movement between the wheel and rotor or rotor and hub due to corrosion. BMW sells friction rings that fit between wheel/rotor/hub that supposedly solve the issue. Also it’s always always good practice to use a wire wheel and brake cleaner or wd40 to clean the hub any time you’re changing rotors.

For me it just started happening Friday night, no change, I run 513s with oem lug bolts, I’ve cleaned everything taken off the rotor, cleaned the hub and back of rotor, not sure what now, I’m suspecting axle….
