for information:
step 1: buying the auto parts from internet step 2: replace the parts and open several plastic parts from the gate door and left side panel step 3: connect the cables and drill one button hole for open/close button in the door end step 4: re-fit all opened parts step 5: you can now use your original car remote key button to open/close this trunk door, enjoy! |

Could you post some pictures and/or video of the parts installed? Where did you buy the parts "from [the] internet?"

frankly i bought in Taobao (China e-trade website, not sure whether i can post the link here, pls advise); and below is the photos of relevant parts and also the description books for installation.
if you have good DIY background, you can make it. this might be last DIY for X1, before that i DIY the navigator (Chinese version IDRIVE cost about USD500) and also the rear parking camera(cost about USD30)...takes time but funny, also very cheap. thanks reading! |

above is the photos from the web which i bought.
nice packing and not complicated jobs. less damage to the original of the car. except one thing i need to drill a small hole in the plastic bottom part of the gate tail to install the on/off button. after all you can: 1/use bmw remote key for open/close 2/can use the trunk gate button for open/close 3/can use the trunk handle for open 4/also they already have safe setting, means the door will stop automatically if they hit an obstacle when closing, for example if you close the gate but you put your head/body/hand inside, once the door hit you, they will stop; (this guy in China, more clear: http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XOTE4Nz....3.5-1.1-1-1-4) thanks guys! rear camera kit:
i think there is a lot of camera kits very cheap in internet, since i have installed a China Idrive, so i can have a monitor, if you dont have a monitor, you need to buy it as well. very simple DIY below is choices: http://s.taobao.com/search?q=%E5%AF%...urceId=tb.item but problem is that you need to connect it into parking light, usually there is interference which u need to buy resistor, or just like me, i simply connect to 12V cigarette plug...many small issues you need to think. |

Can you give a bit of detail on the wiring that you had to do? Where did you put the control box? |

ok trying to describe more:
A/Unplug job : first unplug the grey plastic panel of the tail gate also the left side small grey plastic cover of the gate window, also the left side plastic carpet panel of the trunk. also uninstall the tail door lock plastic cover (they have 4 screws) also take out the 2 plastic big board layers cover, after all you can see the BMW battery. B Install job: 1/first to uninstall the original left side hydraulic jack, (and keep the original 4 screws) 2/then install the electric jack to replace this above original and using this 4 screws, 3/the CPU box(small black box) can put onto spec nearby the BMW battery, many space over there. 4/and bottom of the electric jack there will be a black wire of this product jack to connect to the CPU wire in photo, and such wire have to pass through under the black rubber ring to the left panel before connection (just hiding all the wires under the rubber ring. 5/and there is another 3 wire starting from CPU box and extend to the tail gate, which needs to connect to the (a) BMW door lock + (b) OEM open/close switch + (c) beep beep sound alarm (alarm i just throw it bec i dont like beep beep sound). so i just connect a & b finally all 2 wires have to go through the left side of the trunk and then to the door lock of the gate. (most of them just follow the color of the wires simply plug and play), my description might be hard to understand but they have small photo booklet to tell u how to connect. i just follow and DIY. (never mind sometimes small trial and error, but the system is not complicated at all. just give a signal to the CPU to unlock and jack up/down.) one more thing, to give the power to CPU, very simple the CPU has 2 big wires (back-ve and red+ve), u can just loose the BMW battery box which also has 2 screws one for +ve red and one for -ve black, and connect there to get electricity, very simple. |

First of all, thank you very much for posting this (and your DIY instructions). Who (in the West) wants to be the first one to take the plunge?
I'd like to try and order (import?) one of these to try out for myself. No idea how I can get my hands on one though. Is this a universal kit or BMW X1 specific? If designed for BMW X1, is it market- or country-specific? (I'm ignorant if everything will be the same between U.S. and Asian versions.)

Are all of these kits the same? Or is one better (better brand, quality, features, or compatibility)?

The CPU boxes are "plug and play" (or maybe plug and pray in this case)? There is no vehicle programming or custom coding required?
