Radio Power Button
A few weeks ago I was driving and dropped my phone and it hit the power button on the radio and it popped off the chrome ring and cap.
I've looked all through the car, and while it has to be in there I just can't find it. Has anyone had to replace it before? I see one power button at FCP Euro but it has a different chrome ring that goes into the radio, and it's like $24. Anyone taken the stock radio out and now want it?! I just can't believe I can't find it. |

I haven't had to replace this button, but I had a very similar problem 20 some years ago putting an aftermarket stereo into my 3g eclipse. I dropped one of the screws that hold in the head unit in the car. I looked and looked, and for the life of me I couldn't find it, so I buttoned her up without it. Fast forward a year to the next summer, I'm back home visiting my parents out on their boat and I look down at the split gap in my cheap target sandals where the sole had been separating for at least a year (I was pretty cheap back then, haha). There was something shiny in there, and it was that screw I lost the prior summer! I must have been wearing those sandals when I installed the head unit, and when the screw fell, it fell into the gap in my sandals where it stayed for a year.
Moral of the story, check your shoes and folds in your clothes, maybe even your laundry! |

I feel for you. I was just trying to replace the volume knob on my E90, which is just supposed to pull off, but it would not budge. That stupid cap would come off and fly everywhere, nearly losing it twice myself.
You may just want to buy a new knob, though be careful and do your due diligence, as I just learned, since I apparently bought the wrong knob, in spite of ECS confirming it was the right one. Luckily, it still somehow went on, fits, and works though. Actually, if the old one for that is indeed the same part # as on our E84's, which it probably is, and I haven't done any damage to my cap, which just presses back on, you can probably just have that lil disk/cap if you want. The knob I took off seems to be part #65129114289, which I couldn't see and didn't realize it had a weird chrome base too until I removed it. Looks like that's $19 new at FCP Euro as I've considered buying a new/right one. I bought part #65129231059, which looks nearly identical, only it doesn't have chrome base. The internals are slightly different, too. I don't know if the site will allow me to put links to FCP Euro or ECS in here. Anyways, I still have the old knob and have no use for it. I was replacing mine since I just bought the car used and the black black plastic part you'd turn was a little sticky/gummy, so just wanted a new one. If you check realoem or confirm it's the right part number, happy to send this your way for whatever cheap postage might cost for this pesky lil thing. Let me know. |

Did you check for the correct part number using your VIN and looking through one of the online part database sites? There are multiple “knobs”…and multiple radio units….and depending on the options you have…you should be able to determine which part number you have:
Check #2 based on your VIN and options: https://bimmercat.com/bmw/en/search/...iX/USA/65_2250 …or: https://bimmercat.com/bmw/en/search/....jpg?v=01.2020
