X1 Brake and Gas Pedal Offsets.
Anyone of you are comfortable with the brake/gas pedal being offset?
My wife complain to me that those pedal are offset too much. Traffic driving is very tired. Adding this with the stiff steering wheel makes the car less sporty as I could imagine. Anyone have experience this issue? Is there a fix? |

the height of the pedal is offset such that your feet is hard to pivot between them.
Especially when the floor height of our X1 is higher than usual. I found it not so comfortable.. I'll see if there's any way to lowered the brake pedal... |

Taking this old, but seems evergreen topic up, I was suffering from this gap since my 1-er E81.
And now, having changed to E84 and covered 400km in a weekend, just got the idea to try to remove the rubber layer of the brake pedal. Piece of cake to take it off- win around a 8-10mm of space in front and around 15mm at the edge-corner (very thick thing)- MUCH better. Now, using a 3M or similar superstrong double-sided thin tape, stick on a thinnest 0,1mm shoe sole anti-slip polymer protectant (as it is highly abrasive-proof), a piece of which you can ask for in any shoe-repair shop, and that's it! Like a bonus, you also get a little more space between pedals if wearing wide Winter shoes. Not slippery comaring to the stock rubber brake pedal sole, no shoe leaning against the pedal arm due to the decreased thickness- no trouble at all. PS This is also helpful for those with long legs and standard arms and torso, like me, who still wants to keep the regular car relaxed low sitting position with the seat back far from vertical, with legs and arms as straight as still comfortable for steering. Here each cm of pedals away plays a huge role, as the steering wheel is pulled out completely. Don't mind the awful writings on the polymer sticker- it was the thinnest and strongest the shoe makers had today. Driven today- wonderful brake feel improvement, having eliminated the stock rubber sole softness- never installed something rigid like the performance pedals before, thus it is new feel for me.

I've got Muscular Dystrophy CMT type and can barely walk to my X1 or Mazda RX8.
Once in I can drive fast on a sports car track, but have had some pedal trouble here and there. I'd say the X1 is the best position for my 6' tall body, and missed the brake on the RX8 while ago after getting used to the X1. The RX8 is horrendous for auto pedal position since the engine is pushed far back where trans should be in that car. I find the X1 with M Sport to be the best adjustable seating and controls position of any car I've seen. One needs the right shoes and seat time to be confident. |
