It seems to be most noticeable on declaration , you can make it do it by taking your foot on and off the gas.

Yes, I had same sound and yes, at least in my case, it was the diff
I had a clear confirmation when I lift the car and I saw that the U joint had a really serious bang-bang sound only shaking it with free hand...
