RESULTS: Picked up the car (a week later) and it seems OK. I still hear noise (could be engine and/or transmission) but maybe that's because I became accustomed to the x3 3.0 loaner which was newer (2019 with 1k miles) and much quieter. The insurance DENIED the claim for reasons noted on the slip.
At any rate, check out the following images and let me know if you have any thoughts.
Looks like alignment was off, but have you ever seen anything like the explanation for requiring a new transmission?
Looks like they drove it 22 miles (with the adjuster maybe) to check it.
