Look closely at the pin. One side of the pin has grooves in it, similar to the hinge pins on the doors.
The grooves are what lock it in place. It needs to be whacked out, pushed from the opposite side which is tapered.
BTW, I did it the wrong way and it still worked, just a bit harder.
