With a BMW, you actually want to have the non-AWD option. I was shocked to see they added the sDrive option for the 28i in the US (previously was only offered in lower end models for ROW) but am happy they did, even if it was quite likely only so they could offer a lower priced entry model here.
I know BM are traditionally rear wheel drive, however the X-series definitely isn't.

Also, rear wheel drive is not great on snow if you are not into sliding

Each to their own - I love the extra traction I get from the AWD. Ibe also noted the disappointment others have expressed on this forum (though not all!) with the lower spec sDrive and 18 diesel models.
